Your Garden Hose Is Killing Your Pump. You Just Don't Know It Yet.
A direct drive pump pulls water at engine RPM. Open the trigger and the pump demands flow now. A standard 5/8" garden hose at 6-8 GPM cannot keep up.
That gap between demand and supply is cavitation — air bubbles imploding inside the pump head, chewing up valves, seats, and packings every time you let go of the trigger.
Belt drive solves this. The slower pump RPM means gentler water intake. You can run off a smaller water supply without starving the pump — and without rebuilding it every six months.
If your pump is failing early and you can't figure out why, look at your water supply. Better yet, spec a rig that handles it. Call 1-800-624-8186 or visit powerlineindustries.com.
