C&D Lumber. Great People. Great Products. Great Customers. This has been a tagline for as long as any of us can remember and to this final day, it remains true.

Since the announcement of our closure, we have had the chance to speak with many of our long-time customers who became our friends… and who will remain friends. We are grateful for the kind words and support as we finalize the details that come with closing a business whose products made it possible to outlast its competitors by far… while also keeping its people and customers first.

Today is our final day in shipping and sales. Before we go, we want to share the silver linings that come with this change in the career paths for our sales and shipping team.

Lee: Lee is excited to join Hat Creek Lumber as Sales Manager. With extensive experience in the lumber industry, Lee is committed to ensuring a seamless transition for his customers. Hat Creek Lumber specializes in high-quality cedar lumber, perfectly suited to meet the needs of the companies he has partnered with during his time at C&D.

Leslie: After 16 years with C&D, Leslie will be taking a well-deserved break to spend time with family and recharge. During this time, she will explore career opportunities that align with her skills and interests. Leslie is excited about the potential paths ahead and the chance to find a role that matches her expertise and aspirations.

Elisa: Elisa is pivoting from her role at C&D to offer her skills as a freelance social media and digital marketing consultant. Passionate about the lumber industry, Elisa aims to help businesses in this field enhance their online visibility and engagement. Her services encompass comprehensive digital marketing strategies, including social media planning, content development, and email marketing. Tommy: Tommy has joined Billboard Lumber Company as their Inventory and Production Supervisor. Tommy is eager to bring his expertise to Billboard Lumber Company and contribute to its success.

Kennette: Kennette is embracing a new challenge as the Accounts Receivable and Credit Clerk with Swanson Group. With her extensive experience in the lumber industry and customer service experience, Kennette will be an asset to the Swanson Group.

Steven: Steven acquired his CDL and is embarking on a new career path as a truck driver for South Umpqua Disposal. He is excited to support the business and its success.

This Memorial Day we take a moment to recognize those who gave everything for our freedom.

In honor of Memorial Day, C&D Lumber will be closed Friday, May 24th and Monday, May 27th. We will return to our regular business hours on Tuesday, May 28th.

After 130 years, May 2nd marked the end of an era at C&D Lumber as the final log made its journey through the mill.

We would like to take this opportunity to bid farewell to our employees who have moved to their next step in life. We are forever grateful for their dedication and contributions and wish them the best in their future endeavors.

Despite the conclusion of the sawmill operations, C&D Lumber will continue to operate over the coming months. The planer will continue running until sometime in June as we process the lumber that had been cut at the mill. Over the next few months, we will continue taking and filling orders for existing customers as inventory allows.

It is with profound regret that the Board of Directors of C&D Lumber Co. announces the permanent closure of our operations. Founded in 1890 by Alfred Johnson in Southern Oregon’s Coos County, C&D Lumber has been a cornerstone of the timber industry for over 130 years, renowned for producing the highest quality Douglas Fir, Incense Cedar, and Port Orford Cedar wood products.

Our company, a 6th generation family-owned and operated business, has weathered many storms through the decades. However, the unprecedented challenges facing the industry today – from market fluctuations, increasing operational costs, to timber supply issues– have made it impossible for us to envision a sustainable future for the company.

The decision to close was not made lightly. We extend our deepest gratitude to all our employees, past and present, for their hard work, dedication, and passion. Their contributions have been the backbone of C&D Lumber, distinguishing us in a competitive industry. We also thank our customers, suppliers, and community for their unwavering support and partnership over the years.

C&D Lumber’s legacy is deeply entwined with that of the Riddle community and beyond. For more than a century, we have not only been a leading employer but also a fervent supporter of local initiatives and stewardship of our natural resources. The Johnson Family plans to continue this tradition through the continued management and growth of C&D Lumber’s sister company, Silver Butte Timber.

This is a challenging time for all of us connected to C&D Lumber Co. We approach this closure with heavy hearts but also with pride in what we have achieved together.

Our immediate plan involves a strategic wind-down of operations, ensuring that all remaining inventory is processed and sold, and affairs are settled responsibly and respectfully. We are committed to providing support to our employees during this transition, including severance packages and assistance in finding new employment.
