Choosing uniform shades across your building will cost you.

Though it seems efficient, this approach fails to account for the varying levels and angles of sunlight that different sides of a building can face. This ultimately affects energy efficiency, and most importantly, occupants dealing with glare.

Dark or light-colored shades? 🤔 In office buildings, the answer isn't just about aesthetics.

Light-colored shades reflect higher levels of solar radiation and heat before it enters the space, helping reduce cooling loads. Dark-colored shades absorb more solar energy, but provide superior glare control and preserve exterior views by reducing reflected light.

Choosing between them, or finding a fabric that strikes the right balance between solar performance, glare control, and visibility, is what our Design-Assist℠ team does best.

Artificial Intelligence can summarize your options. But it can’t reconcile your priorities.

Hear Colin Blackford, VP of Technical Design, get specific about where artificial intelligence falls short when it comes to shading and acoustic specification, and why the messiest parts of a project still require a human in the room.

Late night installs would be a lot harder without Kevin. 👏

This May, we're spotlighting Kevin Fitzgerald, an installer who shows up long after most clock out and delivers every time. His teammates noticed and nominated him for both our and recognitions.

Kevin, thank you for the unfailing dedication you bring to each job site.

How do you feel about vertical blinds? 🤔

They may have a reputation for being bulky and outdated, but in the right setting, vertical blinds can provide greater control over light and privacy than many fixed shade systems.

Are they making a comeback?
The answer is yes — but not the way you remember them from the 90s with shiny PVC slats.

The new approach:
• Textured fabrics like linen, woven, and sheer materials
• Softer movement that feels more like drapery
• Improved light filtering and acoustical performance

Wide windows, large commercial spans, and sliding glass configurations are where vertical systems genuinely outperform fixed shades. Our recent installation at CBRE in Waltham, Massachusetts, is a great example of that in action.

Not every project calls for the same solution. That’s exactly what our Design-Assist℠ team is here to help determine with you.
