After heavy winter storms caused landslides and slipouts in many places along the winding roadways of the Santa Cruz mountains, the County of Santa Cruz Department of Public Works embarked on their Storm Damaged Roadway Repair Program with the aid of FEMA and FHWA emergency funding and a handful of consultants. Since then, Quincy Engineering has been tasked with providing engineering and construction inspection services for 20 projects, including a package of three that was recently recognized by the APWA Monterey Bay Chapter as a Project of the Year!
Despite a barrage of setbacks—including the 2020 CZU Lightning Complex wildfire that engulfed the Jamison Creek Road site and contractor’s equipment mid-construction—the team prevailed and completed the projects ahead of schedule. The County, contractors (Reber Construction Co.,Inc., Gordon Ball , and Graniterock, and Quincy’s team collaborated masterfully to juggle construction inspection at three distinct sites and protect the environment while working within constrained areas amidst the redwood groves, creeks, steep slopes, and rough terrain that make up the landscape of North County. On top of that, they navigated the implementation of new COVID safety procedures. Kudos to our experienced team of engineers and inspectors Russ Moore, Rob Ferguson, Mike Sanchez, Carl Hughes, Ashley Hanson, Jesse Dean, Danny Sanchez, Joe Lockwood, and Josh Marshall for delivering exceptional work on time and against all odds!
After years of road damage and traffic delays, residents and travelers are now back to enjoying two lanes of fully restored roadway at Jamison Creek Road, Felton Empire Road, and Alba Road. See the transformation in the video below!
