Right after we deal with the impossible geometry, the undercuts nobody mentioned, the tolerance measured in hopes and prayers, and the feature that was apparently designed with zero intention of ever leaving the mold.

If that sounds less like a nightmare and more like Tuesday, Dynamic Group wants to talk to you.

We’re hiring an experienced Mold Designer in C**n Rapids, MN who knows that good mold design is equal parts engineering, problem-solving and occasionally staring at a CAD model wondering who hurt the person who designed it.

You’ll take complex customer parts, tear into the DFM, develop mold concepts and work with Engineering and the Toolroom to turn “good luck molding that” into “yeah, we can build it.”

What we’re looking for:

🛠️ 5+ years of mold design experience
💻 Creo preferred; SolidWorks welcome
🧠 Actual mold-making knowledge — not just the ability to make CAD look pretty

• Maintenance history
• Collaboration between engineering, tooling, molding, and quality teams

It's easy to assume the answer is the mold.

In our experience, delays often start much earlier. A manufacturability concern that wasn't identified during development, a tolerance that creates unnecessary complexity, or a conversation that happened too late can all have a ripple effect once tooling is underway.

The earlier engineering, tooling, and manufacturing teams begin working together, the more opportunities there are to simplify processes, reduce risk, and keep programs moving. Good manufacturing isn't just about solving problems. It's about preventing them before they have a chance to grow.

For a long time, manufacturing conversations centered around one question: How do we reduce cost? Today, many companies are asking a different question: How much control do we have over our supply chain?

When products are built closer to the teams designing, testing, and supporting them, communication tends to move faster. Engineering questions get resolved more quickly. Design changes are easier to manage. Teams gain more visibility into what's happening and when. When a manufacturing program runs into delays, the mold is rarely the only factor. More often, the slowdown happens between teams. Engineering is waiting for feedback. The tool shop is working through a change. Production is waiting for the next sampling run.

What should be a quick decision starts taking days instead of hours. That’s one reason we’ve always seen value in keeping tooling, molding, engineering, and quality closely connected.

When the people building the mold can work directly with the people who will ultimately run it in production, communication becomes simpler. Questions get answered sooner. Small issues are addressed before they become larger ones. The entire process becomes more collaborative. In medical manufacturing, where timelines matter and changes can become expensive quickly, those connections often have a bigger impact than people expect.

The goal isn’t simply to build a mold and hand it off. The goal is to create a manufacturing process that performs consistently long after the first samples are approved.
