Fun Fact: we have spent more 💵 in REPAIRS on this machine than what we purchased it for 🫪

The challenge with buying used equipment is you really can’t see all that could be wrong with it. Some issues are hidden … and others are silently ticking time bombs 💣
Cost savings on the front end … yet a it’s gamble 🎲

Going in: we knew the mill needed a spindle rebuild - which we did right away.
The surprises which came after that, well those have been tremendous. (and might have brought on a bit of PTSD 😂)

This isn’t a pity-party post. This is about GRATITUDE for being able to mastermind a plan to get over this wall, fix the s**t and get back up! 💪

We’ll be sharing about the repairs because hopefully it will help someone else, should they have to navigate it for themselves 🤪

HUGE Shoutout to MZI Precision - They are spindle specialists!!
Excellent service and craftsmanship. (thankfully only 2 hours away from us) They did our Spindle rebuild and an extensive Spindle Motor rebuild. We wouldn’t be here without them 🙏

Final thought 💭 : if you own equipment & machinery … DO THE PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE!!!!
Sadly, whoever owned this VF2 beforehand was unaware of that vital requirement. 🤬

And POV : if you don’t know how to fix something - find a professional - MacGyver’ng doesn’t cut it on CNC Mills if you want it to make beautiful parts.

Meet the M3 mfg Team ☘️ Russ : Director of Operations & Lead Machinist/Programmer

⚙️ Russ McMahon is the kind of machinist who can look at a print, spot the problem before it becomes expensive, and figure out the smartest way to make the part right.

With more than 30 years of machining experience and 18 years in aerospace, Russ has expertise in 5-axis programming, fixturing, tooling, and process improvement.

His role within R&D highlights his ability to take a part from concept through production, collaborating with engineering on the design, programming the process, and machining the finished part.

He has a knack for finding ways to make jobs run more efficient, repeatable, and production-friendly (actually, it’s his passion!)

“We saw an opportunity to build the kind of shop we believe customers want,” says Russ. “Clear communication, realistic lead times. Quality over quantity.”

🇺🇸 With U.S. manufacturing growing and CNC technology opening the door to new possibilities, M3 was built for this moment.

Very impressed > > It’s just made the podium for our common tools 🏆

Simple Part > Expensive Mistake 💰
Print wasn’t followed. Tolerances missed 🚫

Result: parts out of spec and unusable.

⚠️ Customer brought these parts to us done by another shop, needing help.

We re-machined them with the correct dimensions >> but rework adds cost, time, and delays that shouldn’t exist.

If the print isn’t clear, WE ask.
If something looks off, WE flag it.

That’s how parts get made right the first time 💪
