We’re celebrating Pi Day today with irrational enthusiasm! Fun fact, the original frisbees were actually pie tins that college kids
started throwing around, so in the spirit of Pi Day we grabbed a few discs and let them fly!

No matter what part of the country you’re in, you can have your own slice of the celebration. Let us know what pi(e) related fun you’re
having today! We’d love to see how everyone else is geeking out.

Next stop, Nashville. We’re heading to MAX (The Manufacturing & Automation eXchange) March 25–26 at Music City Center. Come see us at Booth 1043.

Formerly Assembly Show South, MAX brings together automation, assembly, and manufacturing solutions with a strong focus on what actually works on the plant floor. It’s a great setting for practical conversations and hands-on problem solving.

At the COVAL booth, we’ll be running hands-on demos and offering in-booth product testing. If you have a part that’s challenging to grip, bring it with you. Testing it on the spot is a great way to validate a vacuum solution and avoid surprises later. Our team will also be available to help with vacuum selection, system sizing, and energy optimization, whether you’re designing a new machine or fine-tuning an existing line.

⛳ COVAL teed off the A3 - Association for Advancing Automation Business Forum the best way possible, out on the course.

We had a great round with Joe Reams, Mark Lewandowski, Geoff Dawson, and Joe Gemma. There were plenty of solid shots, a few questionable ones, and great conversations throughout the morning despite the frigid temperatures. Getting a few hours together on the course was a fair way to get time to talk openly about challenges, opportunities, and where manufacturing automation is headed.

It's a strong start to the week, and a great way to get the ball rolling for 2026. We can't wait to see what the rest of the forum has in store!

Last week our entire team came together at COVAL’s headquarters in Raleigh for our annual Kickoff Meeting. It was a valuable opportunity for face-to-face collaboration, hands-on training, and aligning on priorities for the year ahead. We reviewed wins from the past year, shared lessons learned, and set clear goals to support our partners and customers even better.

Just as important was the time spent together outside the meeting room. Team building at a local go-kart and axe-throwing arcade reminded us that strong performance starts with strong relationships. We were also glad to include check-ins and contributions from our colleagues in France, reinforcing the global teamwork behind everything we do at COVAL Vacuum Technology.

Here's to a successful 2025, and looking forward to an even better 2026!

Happy Holidays from all of us at COVAL 🎄

As the year winds down, we want to take a moment to say thank you. Working alongside customers and partners who push automation forward is what makes our work rewarding, and we truly appreciate the trust and collaboration you have shown us throughout the year. We wish you a joyful, relaxing holiday season and a great start to the New Year.

COVAL will be closed December 24–25 for Christmas and December 31–January 1 for the New Year. We will be open on the business days in between, with limited staff available. If you anticipate needing support, reaching out a bit early will help us take good care of you.

Thank you again for being part of our year. We look forward to continuing to support your automation projects in the year ahead.

Did you know porous and air-tight materials behave quite differently under vacuum?

Here's why. It comes down to leakage rate and the force equation that drives every successful pick. Vacuum gripping force is a function of pressure differential and the effective surface area of the suction cup:

F = ΔP × A

Where F is holding force, ΔP is the pressure difference between atmospheric pressure and the vacuum level, and A is the contact surface area.

Why this matters:
➡️Porous materials constantly leak air through the surface. The pump must compensate for that airflow, so operating at extremely deep vacuum levels is not efficient. The goal is to maintain a stable vacuum, not a maximum vacuum.
➡️Airtight materials allow the vacuum generator to reach higher ΔP, increasing holding force with lower airflow requirements.

Here is how that plays out in real applications:
➡️ Porous materials (cardboard, MDF, foam trays)
Typical approach uses a vacuum generator sized for higher flow rather than higher vacuum. A 60 percent maximum vacuum generator provides a 30 to 55 percent holding vacuum, which maintains grip while keeping air consumption under control.
➡️ Air-tight materials (glass, metal, plastics)
Because leakage is minimal, ΔP can increase significantly. An 85 percent maximum vacuum generator produces 55 to 80 percent holding vacuum, giving stronger grip with less airflow demand.

Picture it as a simple tradeoff:
Porous materials require flow first, airtight materials benefit from vacuum level first.

Discover the MPXE and MPXS Series: Controlled Micro Vacuum Pumps Designed for High-Speed Environments in Robotics, Plastics Processing, and Electronics

The MPXE and MPXS series are ultra-compact, lightweight micro vacuum pumps, engineered for integration in high-throughput industrial environments such as robotics, plastics processing, and electronics. Both models feature 0.7 mm and 1.0 mm nozzles, delivering identical suction flow rates, and are available as standalone modules or as bankable units, accommodating up to 8 modules for scalable installation.

But what sets these two series apart?

▶️ MPXE Series
- Incorporates essential functions for efficient vacuum and blow-off control.
- Integrated vacuum switch for real-time vacuum level measurement.
- Provides a "vacuum level" signal via a 5 V DC analog output.

▶️ MPXS Series
- Offers advanced smart features for simplified operation through a Human-Machine Interface (HMI).
- Equipped with IO-Link communication and ASC (Air Saving Control) technology for intelligent vacuum regulation and up to 90% energy savings.
- Features automatic timed blow-off and optional high-power blow-off for rapid part release.
- High-visibility display with multilingual messages and intuitive setup menu.
- Built-in diagnostic tools and cycle counters for preventive maintenance and process monitoring.

Both series are designed to optimize the gripping process, ensuring high performance, flexibility, and adaptability for demanding industrial applications. The modular design allows for easy integration, whether as standalone units or as part of a banked configuration with shared pressure and exhaust collection.
