Engineers Without Borders-USA, NCSU

Engineers Without Borders-USA, NCSU EWB-USA NCSU student chapter currently has three committees running projects in two countries. You can read more about the project on the chapter website.

The Bolivia Water Sanitation committee is working with a locally run technical boarding school in the highlands of Bolivia to increase both the quantity and quality of water for students and professors throughout the year. EWB-USA NCSU has sent three teams to the region; in 2007,2009 and 2011. You can read more about the committee and our goals on the chapter website, or, check out the recent blog

from the recent assessment trip at http://www.potosiponderingsewbncsu.blogspot.com/

The Sierra Leone Renewable energy committee is working in the community of Lower Allentown, Sierra Leone. The committee is currently aiming to supplement the power system of a school called the Village Learning Environment (VLE) through the use of self-sustaining, localized energy which can be expanded over time to provide greater power capabilities. The committee is planning on sending a 2-person assessment team in December, 2011. The Sierra Leone Water Systems committee is also working in Lower Allentown, Sierra Leone. The committee is working in conjunction with the LemonAid fund at a local school established by the NGO. Due the rapidly growing population of the city, the school is unable to receive sufficient water from the city's system. EWB-USA NCSU is helping develop a more efficient pipeline and public tap for the school.

And they're off!

Our Sierra Leone Renewable Energy (SLRE) travel team is en route to Sierra Leone to conduct their implementation trip. The team will be installing a solar panel system in the Dele Village School in Lower Allentown, Sierra Leone. While in country, the team will be working together with community members to install an inverter, mount the panels to the roof of the school, and build support networks for the system.

In addition, we would like to show our gratitude to everyone who donated to our 25 Days of Giving fundraiser! We raised $2,150, all of which will directly support our project teams' endeavors.

Happy Holidays!

This past Wednesday, our Guatemala Water Systems project team safely landed in Caserio Panhux! They have begun the second part of their implementation phase, with the goal of implementing 20 rainwater catchment systems in 14 days!

In the coming days, our Sierra Leone Renewable Energy project team will be traveling to Lower Allentown, Sierra Leone, to implement a solar panel system for the Dele Village K-12 School. We are excited to see the team's hard work come to fruition!

The work we do is not possible without your generous support. Our 25 Days of Giving campaign is coming to an end, but your generous donations are always much appreciated! www.ewbncsu.org/25-days-of-giving

Today, we surpassed $1,500 raised for our 25 Days of Giving fundraiser! That would be enough to fund SIX rainwater catchment systems!

Our Guatemala Water project team aims to implement a total of 54 systems. This December, their goal is to implement 20 systems in just 20 days - a task that they have been preparing tirelessly for! Below are pictures from their first implementation trip in August 2018, where they worked alongside the community to construct the first 14 rainwater catchment systems.

Your donations mean the world to us! If you'd like to donate, visit this link: www.ewbncsu.org/25-days-of-giving

Last night, our club held our very first "Shag-Mas", a holiday-themed s**g night to wrap up the school year! A special shoutout goes to our fundraising team, who did a fantastic job planning and executing the event. With over 80 attendees, the night was packed with an ugly sweater contest, Insomnia cookies, hot chocolate, and plenty of dancing!

As our students are busy hitting the books in preparation for finals, our 25 Days of Giving fundraiser still goes on! We are grateful for any donation you are able to make. www.ewbncsu.org/25-days-of-giving

With our 25 Days of Giving fundraiser in full swing, we are delighted to have raised $1,105 so far - over 20% of the way to our goal of $5,000!

Did you know: the very first trip that EWB - USA project teams take to their partner community is called the assessment trip. It is vital in ensuring that the project is working towards meeting the community's true need!

Back during Spring Break of 2017, our Guatemala Water project team conducted their assessment trip. Some of their tasks included:
- establishing a relationship with community members and learning more about the community of Caserio Panhux
- interviewing community members about their present water use and future needs
- collecting water samples and gathering data about the community's present water quality

This December, the team will be traveling back to Caserio Panhux for their second implementation trip! Thus far, 14 rainwater catchment systems have been implemented in the community; your kind donations will go towards the implementation of the remaining 40!

Thank you for your continuous support! www.ewbncsu.org/25-days-of-giving

-EWB at NCSU

Your support will go directly towards our three international engineering projects, two of which are traveling for an implementation trip this December!
