Bass, Nixon and Kennedy is mourning the loss of one of our founders. Mr. James Albert Bass, Jr. passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025 at his home. Mr. Bass along with Larry Nixon and Don Kennedy, founded Bass, Nixon and Kennedy Consulting Engineers (BNK) in 1969. They enjoyed years of success as a result of growth across the state of North Carolina. The company has continued to grow and is today a multi disciplined engineering firm licensed to practice not only in North Carolina but in several states across the United States.
Mr. Bass was honored as a Fellow of the Professional Engineers of NC. He served on the NC Board of Registration for Engineers and Land Surveyors (Chairman) and the NC Building Code Council. He mentored several young engineers over his career, and even into his retirement.
Mr. Bass was an avid NC State Baseball fan and was a season ticket holder for many years. Mr. Bass had just recently renewed his season tickets for next season.
Mr. Al Bass’ legacy will continue here at Bass, Nixon and Kennedy and will be remembered not only as a founder and a mentor, but as a man of dignity and as a friend.
Mr. Bass will be laid to rest at Raleigh Memorial Park on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 1:00pm. Following the graveside, a Memorial service to honor his life will be held at 2:00 pm, at The Church of the Good Shepherd,125 Hillsborough St, Raleigh, NC 27603. Following the service, the family will receive friends at his home.
