Not a bad view from the jobsite, huh? We've loved watching this custom home come together in Blacksburg, Virginia, built by our friends at Taylor Hollow Construction with our SIPs. We get to be part of some pretty cool dream homes, and this one is definitely up there!

Can't wait to show you what's on the other side of that window.

Highest electric bill so far? $34.

That's what the homeowners of this Lexington, Virginia, home have reported. And it's an all-electric house. They built with Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) walls and an ACME Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) roof, then added solar panels. Some months, they're actually producing more electricity than they use.

Because even with great walls, what's overhead matters, too. A well-insulated roof helps keep the heat in during winter and out during summer.

Pretty cool what happens when the whole house is designed to work together.

Thermostat roulette. Anyone else playing it this time of year? Heat on in the morning, windows open by afternoon, heat on again by dinner. We’re not complaining about the cooler weather, though.

It’s one reason people choose Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs). A SIP home helps keep indoor temperatures more consistent, even when the weather outside can’t make up its mind. And who doesn’t appreciate a little less thermostat fiddling?

Ever wonder what happens to all the foam we cut off when we're making SIPs?

We recycle it. The scraps go into a machine called a densifier that shrinks them down by more than 90%. What comes out? Solid bricks of EPS foam (the insulation inside our panels), each weighing around 40 pounds.

We stack them on pallets and send them off to be made into other things. Door and window frames, crown moulding, and believe it or not, even surfboards.

Yep. Surfboards. Pretty cool what you can do with leftover foam.

You can have 20 years of building experience and still have a few questions when you’re working with Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) for the first time.

And that’s okay. Nobody expects you to know a building system you’ve never used before.

We’d rather help your crew get comfortable with SIPs on the first project so that by the second one, you’ve got it figured out. (Kind of like learning to ride a bike.)

Our latest blog gets into what that help actually looks like, from the first set of plans to the last panel going up. Take a look → https://ow.ly/2Lbw50ZZy4j

We love a good timelapse. First roof panel went up at 9:15 AM. By noon, every roof panel was in place. Not bad for a morning's work. Great job to our sister company, Taylor Hollow Construction!

Here's why it moves that quickly. With Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), a lot of the measuring and cutting happens before the panels ever reach the jobsite. So crews spend less time prepping and more time getting that roof on.

Curious how this could work for your home or building project? We're happy to walk you through it.

Okay, this one’s a little different. It’s an elevator shaft.

Shaft Crafters built a 30-foot, three-stop elevator on the outside of a 35-year-old home in South Carolina using our SIP wall panels. The original owners want to keep living in the house they love, and now they can.

The panels showed up cut to spec, so the shaft went up in at least 60% less time. Pretty great use for a panel.

"We’ve got a guy for that. Meet Tony"... We said that at least 10 times in two hours yesterday at the Build Expo USA in Charlotte. Nearly every builder we talked to had the same question: “How do we learn to build with SIPs?”

Tony is the SIP Master Builder with our sister company, Taylor Hollow Construction. When Bigfoot Builders in Boone, NC, took on their first SIP project (pictured here), he headed out to the jobsite and worked alongside their crew. He walked them through the installation and made sure everything was going where it should.

Walls were up in less than a day and a half. After Tony left, Bigfoot finished the roof panels on their own.

Here’s what Josh Green, Co-Owner of Bigfoot Builders, told us: “...it’s made the learning curve much easier for our team... In our eyes, at Bigfoot Builders, these panels from Acme are a no brainer.”

That’s what we mean when we say we don’t just drop off panels and wish you luck.

We’re at Booth #405 today until 3 PM, and we’ve got a few more people we’d love for you to meet.
