Minor to moderate flooding is reported along Snohomish County rivers, and flood warnings are in place into the weekend. Please exercise care when traveling and turn around if you encounter road closed signs or water over roadways. It may be tempting to see if you can drive through. Please don’t. Many cars will float in a foot of water. And when it is moving, water packs a serious punch. A cubic foot of water – about 7.5 gallons – weighs upwards of 62 pounds. That’s one reason why adults can be swept off their feet by as little as 6 inches of fast-moving water.

Original post: There are multiple trees down on county roads following high winds overnight. Our crews will respond today to remove downed trees and debris when possible, coordinate with utility companies when utility lines are involved, and close roads or lanes as needed.

⚠️ Please drive cautiously, leave early, take your time, and leave extra space between vehicles. Do not drive around road closure barricades, near downed utility lines or landslides, or through water over the roadway.

Windy weather has caused many outages throughout our service area, with the most damage in Pierce and Thurston counties. We've opened our Emergency Coordination Center and local storm bases to coordinate restoration efforts.

High winds and resulting tree damage downed not only smaller, local lines, but also larger transmission lines that bring power into communities. Once it's safe, crews will begin assessing damage and work to bring transmission lines back online; these lines need to be brought back into service before crews can focus on local distribution lines.
