J.L. Anthony and Company

J.L. Anthony and Company Non Ferrous Metal Alloys In 1914, J.L.Anthony & Company was founded by a gifted tool maker named James L.Anthony. Mr.Anthony was a hub and die cutter. It cost Mr.

As of 2012, the company continues to operates in the original building in the industrial park (Washington Park) area of South Providence, Rhode Island. Over 600 of his fancy wire and flat stock patterns, including the famous “fleur de lis”,were used in the manufacture of jewelry items, such as bracelets, earrings, cardholders, cigarette cases, decorative boxes, and other items. The majority of the

se specially crafted items were produced in brass, copper strip or wire. Unfortunately, Mr.Anthony was one of the many victims of the great flu epidemic of 1919. Upon his death, Mr. Anthony's partners diligently continued his vision until 1949 when the company was sold to Wilhelm Gunther. Wilhelm Gunther,a former employee of Engelhart Industries in New Jersey and
their subsidiary D.E.Makepeace in Attleboro, Massachusetts, purchased the company in 1949 when the roads were unpaved! Gunther $100 to
convince the local politicians to pave the road! The company continued to meet the demands of the industry and supplied the patterned flat stock and fancy wire. However, J.L.Anthony & Company expanded it's operations and vision. During this time Mr. Gunther offered specialized service in the production of gold filled alloys, karat gold, and fine silver and sterling silver strip. Under the dedicated leadership of Mr.Gunther, J.L. Anthony served the vibrant and growing jewelry industry for almost 30 years in Rhode Island, Southern Massachusetts, and New York. In 1966, Mr. Gunther became ill and Robert D.Wray served as President of J.L. Anthony for over 10 years until retiring. Continuing Mr. Gunther's vision, his daughter Mignon Kolb, continued her father's work with the same determination and drive as her dedicated father and became President upon Bob Wray’s retirement. Ms. Kolb continues to be a vital part of J.L. Anthony's operations as she offers wisdom, dedication and valuable insight into production, customer service and knowledge in the area of metal alloys. Today, Wilhelm Gunther’s grandson, Alex Kolb serves as President and continues the family tradition of dedication to exceptional service. Mr. Kolb has taken J.L. Anthony into the future with his expertise in the area of Metal Alloys and his determination to not only meet, but exceed his customer needs and requirements. Kolb continues his dedication to research new and innovative methods to help the customers of J.L. Anthony meet their goals. With Mr. Kolb's knowledge and expertise, J.L. Anthony will continue to grow and expand to better assist our customers and all of their metal alloy needs and requirements.
