This video gives an interesting take on what is really going on in the economy, well worth a watch.

In summary:
- Is AI driving all the job losses? Not really. In the corporate world, between 60-80% of AI projects have been failures. So why blame AI for the job cuts?
- One reason is finding a scapegoat in order to align towards a changing economy.

- So why are so many corporate AI projects failing?
- Most corporate AI projects cost a ton of money. Why? Because they use LARGE Language Models (LLM). These LLMs like ChatGPT or Gemini are highly capable, but require a lot of expensive hardware to run it. This means that as business use cases scale in volume, the AI cost also scales in a worse manner, rendering the projects not to return meaningful ROIs.

For folks in the Geospatial world (surveyors, civil engineers, architects) and in drone services, this will be interesting:

Working with geospatial assets (3D models, CAD files, point clouds, etc) we have the problem of having to use multiple programs to view/edit these different assets. The problem is worsened when you have to share these models with a client -- how can I have a single unified environment where my orthomosaics, DSMs, radiographic images, 3D photogrammetric models, point clouds, and CAD files can all be seen at the same time? Better yet, can I interact with these different models and artifacts in a way that improves my work flow and the final products that I present to my clients?

This is the exact problem that Osarodion Igbinobaro, founder and CEO of Aero AI, and their latest product SiEGA, aims to solve. Based on the Unreal gaming engine, they have created a unifying platform where these kinds of assets can be brought in (geo-referenced, precise, and to scale). Interactions with these assets is also an innovative feature -- for example, if you have a 3D photogrammetric model of Central Park in NY, you can literally drop a video-game avatar (person) into the model and start walking inside it, all in real-life scale! Imagine you are building a new construction, perhaps a mini city, and you have the entire city 3D-modeled. Just load up the city into SiEGA, and voila! You have an entirely novel, fully immersive way of interacting with your model, and showcasing it to your clients! The concept is really powerful.

Let's take this concept a bit further. Right now, for drone service providers, they are usually looking for the next job they need to do, and this is a never-ending hunt. But now, since we have a unifying interactive platform for storing these assets, what if we have a marketplace where geospatial assets can be traded? As a drone pilot, instead of looking for a job, one can start modeling the (geospatial) assets in the real world, post them in the marketplace, and then get royalties as people use their assets! As a user of SiEGA, for example, I could search for the Central Park, NY asset, perhaps in the fall or winter (time-based), in this marketplace. It flips the entire model in which drone services and jobs are currently being conducted!

Greetings my fellow friends. I don't want to post a "gloom and doom" article, but I also want to share with you our thoughts on the fast moving world of AI (artificial intelligence) and it products we know of like ChatGPT. We are living in a fast moving world, where AI development in the realm of computer science has reached an inflection point that will probably affect all our lives.

Fact: AI, specifically Generative AI, has developed to a level where now human intelligence can be cloned on a computer. Essentially, the human brain and how it thinks is being cloned in Generative AI tools like ChatGPT. The key idea here is "Generative" -- computers can now "think" and generate new texts, images, etc. given a concept by a human. This is the breakthrough in AI that has happed 8 months ago. Remember Terminator 2? We are headed there... not that bad (hopefully) but kinda.

Qn: Will AI then take over jobs that required thinking?
Ans: It's not so straightforward. I like this quote from Emad Mostaque, founder of Stability AI: "AI is not going to replace humans. Humans using AI will replace humans who don't use AI." Practically all office or white-collar jobs will be affected -- from doctors to marketing specialists and everyone in between -- any job where one has to use a computer regularly, even if it is only for emails and document writing. This is because the Generative AI technology is so versatile, and can be used in many realms to solve or automate many problems.

Qn: So if productivity increases, what happens to jobs?
Ans: If one person can do the job of 2-5 people, do we need 5 people for that job? Unfortunately businesses care about costs. You've seen how in the past year about 300k folks in tech companies have been laid off -- not because they were bad performers or because the company was bleeding money. So there will inevitably be some layoffs coming in the future for office/white-collar workers. That is one reason why folks like Elon Musk have said that AI is one of the most dangerous technologies at the moment.

Qn: So what should I do?
Ans: Prepare for the inevitable. Learn to use the AI tools now, master the technology, and improve your productivity 2-5x. Be ready now, rather than later. SLT is providing Prompt Engineering training, specifically in ChatGPT, on a bi-monthly basis.

Qn: So why specifically ChatGPT training?
Ans: ChatGPT is the leader in this technology right now. It can do a ton of stuff. I believe the skills you will learn in mastering how to use ChatGPT can be transferred over to some other new GPT when it comes out, because in essence you are talking to a computer "brain" and asking it things to do. The way in which you ask is called Prompt Engineering.

Qn: The training you are providing is 7 hours long!
Ans: There's a lot of material to go in depth. Also, we'll be offering this training on a weekly basis, in two parts: morning session (PART 1), and afternoon session (PART 2). If you take PART1 on one day, you can always take PART 2 on a different day, as per your schedule.

Summary: SLT is providing Prompt Engineering training, the tool we will train on now is ChatGPT because it is currently the best. This training is also being provided to other small businesses in the twin cities.
