Mike Guzman served eight years in the US Army Reserves as a Generator Operator and Mechanic. In that role, he learned about power generation and electrical systems. He served two tours in Iraq with the 217th Transportation Company.

“Although it may sound cliché, serving my country is something I am most proud of,” Mike said. “Several members of my immediate and extended family have served. It is an honor to be included in that circle.”

Today, Mike is an Electrical Designer at CoolSys Energy Design working out of our San Antonio office. He creates power distribution designs for commercial retail, residential, and industrial clients. With a focus on efficiency and safety, Mike provides creative engineering for some of the most challenging situations.

CoolSys Energy Design is inspired by Mike’s dedication and sacrifice and is proud to have him on our team. Remembering all who served today and every day.

When the checkered flag waved this afternoon, eight CoolSys Energy Design pit crews sprinted to build remote control race cars. Fueled up, we were off the races and had good times drifting through each lap.

Add Chicago to the growing list of US cities that are moving toward building electrification. Changes include requirements related to energy-efficient lighting; designing certain commercial building roofs to support future solar panel installations; constructing residential buildings with infrastructure that enables a future switch to electric-powered appliances; and incentives for smart HVAC and water appliances that integrate with the power grid to reduce demand during peak use.

CoolSys Energy Design is on the cutting edge of the latest technologies in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and refrigeration engineering and we are thrilled to help residential, commercial, and industrial buildings in any city move forward with energy-efficient and environmentally friendly designs.

Starting in November, new building designs must adhere to stronger energy-efficiency and electrification standards as the city seeks to mitigate one of its major sources of emissions.

Congratulations to Julian Korduba EIT for Successfully Running a 1/2 Marathon!

After weeks of early morning training, he ran 13.1 miles while rocking some CoolSys Energy Design swag (way to represent!). Despite needing an inhaler, Julian pressed on and finished the race with an impressive average of a 9.26-minute mile. As an Electrical Designer taking on more project management responsibilities each week AND as an ever-growing athlete, we couldn't be more proud of his dedication and accomplishments!

CoolSys Energy Design developed the electrical infrastructure and distribution design on an over 350,000 square foot solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage system owned and operated by Convergent Energy + Power for Choptank Electric Cooperative, a Maryland utility. Because the cost of big batteries has dropped significantly in the past decade and the latest technologies now allow them to store larger amounts of energy than ever, grid-scale energy storage systems are now seeing record growth. We are proud and thankful to be on the ground floor of this major transition.

An energy audit may be the first step toward substantial utility savings. From the implementation of large-scale renewable energy projects like solar PV to smaller but equally as effective projects like LED lighting upgrades, the lifecycle cost of energy reduction projects has gone down making upgrades much more attractive and payback periods considerably shorter, even to communities with the tightest of budgets.

A lot has changed over the past few years when it comes to energy management and usage reduction in communities all over the United States. From the implementation of large-scale renewable energy projects like solar PV to smaller but equally as effective projects like LED lighting upgrades, the life

CoolSys Energy Design announces that both Allan and Clive Samuels are transitioning to consulting and advisory roles after over 40 years of business and industry leadership. At the same time, the engineering firm celebrates that Ben Rosenzweig, PE is being promoted to take on the firm’s leadership role.

Brothers originally from South Africa, Allan and Clive formed their mechanical, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and fire protection consulting engineering firm in the early 1980s. Leading and innovating the industry, their company continues to be the “go-to” firm for the engineering of sustainable and optimized HVAC, refrigeration, and building automation systems for supermarkets, as well as commercial, industrial, and multifamily facilities. Their decades of dedication and leadership helped build CoolSys Energy Design into a 100-person team with thriving offices in New Jersey, California, Texas, and Florida.

As Allan and Clive pass the torch to Ben, the firm’s goal remains the same: To provide the highest quality mechanical, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and fire protection engineering services to help make new construction, remodels, and capital improvement projects as sustainable, energy-efficient, and cost-effective as possible.

“Ben has grown into a strong leader who is both business savvy and sensitive to today’s staff needs. We feel confident entrusting him with the company and taking a step back,” said Allan.

As a licensed Professional Engineer in multiple states, Ben has an eye for process improvement and leveraging the latest technologies to drive innovation with all the firm’s clients.

“We are developing in-house software tools for design, optimization, and integration, utilizing AI and machine learning, to help us become the most innovative MEPR consulting firm there is,” he said with infectious enthusiasm. “I am focused on leading the charge in carbon reduction across the footprint of our client’s facilities as we push the limits of the systems and equipment we specify.”

With Ben at the helm of the ship and Allan and Clive still providing their expertise as beacons for the company’s continued success, CoolSys Energy Design is better positioned than ever to offer elegant solutions for complex problems and innovative designs for a sustainable future.
