After reclaiming more than a dozen structures, we come across all kinds of unique vintage finds - but one thing we can always count on, is finding old pitchfork heads.

These beams used to hold up a livestock barn - now they hold your gaze.

The beams came from a barn on the Thompson Family homestead, just north of Harrison, ID - the very homestead for which Thompson Lake & the Thompson Lake Road were named. The paneling came from a local sheep farm in Post Falls.

Transforming a plain kitchen ceiling to a striking piece of artwork is no small feat - we are thankful we got to be a part of it! ☺️

We’ve reclaimed more than a dozen structures, and no two have ever been the same.

Different eras, different builders, different purposes. That variety shows up in the wood, and it’s one of the reasons we enjoy this work as much as we do. 🌲

One of the biggest misconceptions about reclaimed wood is that it’s dirty or unsafe.

What most people don’t see is the work that happens before it ever becomes inventory. Each board is thoroughly cleaned, treated to prevent mold and pests, properly dried, and inspected. Nails are pulled, weak spots are culled, and only solid material moves forward.

Reclaimed doesn’t mean neglected. It means carefully preserved. 💪

Reclaimed wood gets a lot of attention around here — but sometimes the finishing touch isn't wood at all. Some of it is iron, steel, and decades of honest wear. Vintage hardware like this was built to work first and look good second — and somehow it still does both. 🛠

If your space could use a touch of old iron, saddle up and visit our Etsy shop! https://ninepinesbarnwood.etsy.com 🌲

We were proud to be part of Post Falls Brewing Company’s expansion into their new Coeur d’Alene location. Every barnwood beam and every piece of barnwood accent wall material in that space was reclaimed, sorted, and supplied by us — locally sourced Pacific Northwest lumber with a long history before it ever became part of a brewery. 🍺

There’s something about a brewery that naturally brings people together. Long tables. Shared stories. A sense of camaraderie that feels earned, not manufactured. It feels right to see locally brewed beer served in a space built with locally reclaimed wood. Both are shaped by time, hard work, and a deep connection to this place we call home. 🌲

If you’re in the area, stop in. Enjoy a pint surrounded by wood that once stood in this region long before any of us. 🍻

We won’t pretend we know what George Washington would think about reclaimed mantles.

But we’re fairly certain he’d appreciate lumber that was cut right, built strong, and expected to last.

Presidents Day feels like a good time to appreciate materials—and mindsets—that were made to endure.

New lumber has that fresh-cut look.
Reclaimed wood carries something quieter.

This hand-hewn mantle has already lived a long life before meeting this fireplace, and somehow it fits like it’s been here all along. That’s what time does when you let it.

Paris Exposition, 1900. Gold Medal awarded.
This little chocolate crate once carried something special across oceans and decades. 🍫

Preserving history isn’t about keeping something frozen in time. It’s about seeing the value in what’s already lived a full life — and letting it keep going.

Growth, weather, and time all leave their mark—and that history is what gives reclaimed wood its richness. 🌲

Reclaiming a barn isn’t demolition in the usual sense. It's less of a demolition, and more of a rescuing.

It’s slow, methodical work—pulling boards one at a time, removing nails by hand, and paying attention to how the structure comes apart.

It takes longer...a lot longer. And it should. 💪

Old-growth reclaimed lumber is often stronger than new timber, and it’s not by accident.

Those trees grew slowly, over decades, sometimes centuries. Tight growth rings mean denser wood, and denser wood tends to be stronger and more stable. Add in the fact that this material has already spent generations drying, settling, and doing real work, and most of the movement modern lumber struggles with is long gone.

The biggest difference, though, is proof. This wood already carried roofs, weathered storms, and held structures upright long before we arrived. It isn’t potential strength—it’s strength that’s been tested and trusted.
