A new Class 8 electrification project is underway at Zeronox.

Our team is preparing a 2016 Peterbilt 579 day cab tractor for conversion from a Cummins CNG powertrain to battery-electric operation. This Semi Truck has a GVWR of 52,000 pounds and represents the kind of existing commercial equipment that can be evaluated for a new operating life through electrification.

The project is being completed for Premier Trailer in partnership with Tule River Economic Development Corporation , with support from California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) .

Work is now underway in our Vehicle Integration Facility. We look forward to sharing more of the engineering and installation process as the conversion progresses.

Project progress this week on our Pleasant View Elementary School District school bus electrification project in connection with our Tule River Economic Development Corporation grant partnership.

Our team is adding a rooftop AC unit as part of the vehicle integration process. It is one step in getting the bus ready for real-world service, with attention to fitment, installation, and the practical details that matter for daily fleet operation.

Projects like this show the hands-on work behind fleet electrification: technical planning, vehicle integration, service capability, and collaboration with partners focused on practical clean transportation solutions.

Duty cycle matters when deciding whether a fleet vehicle is a good fit for electric.

At Zeronox, we look at how the vehicle is actually used: daily mileage, route predictability, payload, idle time, charging windows, return-to-base schedules, maintenance needs, and operating costs.

School buses, transit buses and shuttles, refuse trucks, and yard trucks or terminal tractors can often be strong candidates. These vehicles usually run predictable routes, return to a central location, and have charging windows that make electrification easier to plan.

In the right application, electric can reduce fuel use, lower routine maintenance needs, improve low-speed torque, reduce noise, and support cleaner operation around facilities, campuses, municipalities, and industrial sites.

For a fleet to transition to electric, the economics have to make sense. When the duty cycle fits, electric can help fleets better manage charging, reduce fuel and maintenance costs, limit maintenance events, and build a stronger total cost of ownership case.

Fleets can start exploring this through Zeronox’s e-kit configuration tool by entering vehicle and operating details to better understand performance needs, cost considerations, and potential benefits.

The best starting point is not electrifying everything. It is identifying the vehicles where electric makes the most operational and financial sense.

Zeronox is now a participating vehicle retrofitter for the SCE ReCharge Commercial Vehicle Rebate program.

Select Zeronox retrofit options may be eligible for rebate amounts up to $127,200, depending on vehicle eligibility, battery configuration, and program requirements.

For commercial fleets in Southern California Edison territory, this program can help reduce the upfront cost of converting eligible Class 4-6 vehicles from internal combustion to battery-electric operation.

Zeronox supports practical fleet electrification through vehicle integration, advanced battery systems, service support, and customer-focused planning.

We’ve officially started our latest retrofit project!

We’ve started an exciting retrofit with Pleasant View School District, converting one of their school buses from gas to fully electric. What makes this project even more impactful is the collaboration behind it. Students and parents from the district are working alongside our team as we train them throughout the process, giving them hands on experience in clean transportation and vehicle electrification.

We’re also proud to be partnering with TREDC and California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz), whose grant funding is helping make this project possible. Together, we’re not only transforming a school bus but also creating a unique training opportunity that brings the community directly into the future of transportation.

To make it even more special, the entire process is being filmed for a documentary, capturing the journey, the training, and the community effort behind bringing this bus from gas to electric.

Zeronox vehicles will also be available on HVIP soon, helping make clean transportation more accessible for fleets across California.

Excited to share the progress as we move forward!

This past week, our President of Zeronox, Rob Cruess, presented at the 2025 Alternative Fuel Symposium. Our team had a great time attending and learning about what's next in RNG, CNG, renewable diesel, electric, and hydrogen technologies. We left with solid insights and plenty of inspiration for the work ahead. Thank you for having us!
