We just loved working on this boathouse project with Homestead Concepts!

It started with an impromptu concept design two years ago while we were working on some basement bathroom remodels. They loved it so much, they decided to make it a reality!

These pictures don’t do enough to explain the amount of work and time that went into this labor of love, to create a unique space for this family to use for years to come!

🤎 Selections that feel like they were made for the room. 🤎

Our clients chose these pieces for their newly remodeled living space, and we're loving how it's all coming together.

🧶 The rug: A soft ivory hand-tufted texture with an organic, abstract pattern in warm caramel from Surya. It adds movement and interest without competing with the rest of the room.
🛋️ The upholstery: A rich cognac leather called ‘Saddle Tan’ by Poly&Bark that picks up the warm tones in the rug, the brick and the wood floors.
Together they tie the whole space together:
🪵 The caramel wood flooring
🧱 The warm, textured brick fireplace
🤍 Crisp white walls that keep it all bright and fresh

Designer tip: Always look at your samples in the actual room. Store lighting can't show you how a rug or fabric will look against your floors, your walls and your natural light. That's why we bring selections on site before anything is ordered. ✨

Furniture and décor are the finishing touches that make a remodel feel like home, and we can't wait to see this room complete! 🏡

✨ Rendering → Real Life ✨

Our clients wanted a laundry room that worked as hard as they do, and this space delivers. The 3D rendering helped them see the layout before construction started, so every inch was planned with a purpose.

🧺 Raised washer and dryer on storage drawers. That means less bending and more storage.
🗄️ Cabinets everywhere, from uppers and lowers to a tall pantry wall for cleaning supplies, linens and everything in between.
🧼 A utility sink for hand-washing, stain treating and messy jobs.
📐 L-shaped countertops with plenty of room for folding.
🪵 A floating wood shelf that adds warmth and a spot for décor.
📦 Open cubbies that keep everyday items easy to reach.

The layout stayed true to the plan, and the finishes all came together. The elongated hexagon backsplash, sleek bar pulls and warm wood-look flooring gave the finished room even more character than the rendering showed.

That's the beauty of the process: the rendering is the foundation, and selections bring it to life. 🤍

Who else would actually enjoy doing laundry in here? 🙋‍♀️

💡 Same tile. Same moment. Totally different colors. 👀

Watch this tile change as it moves through the light. Lighting changes everything about how your finishes look, including tile, paint, cabinets, countertops and flooring.

That's why we talk about lighting during selections, before construction begins. Here's what happens:

🔌 Placement gets locked in early. Very important.
🌡️ Color temperature matters. Warm bulbs (around 2700K–3000K) and cool bulbs (4000K and up) can make the same finish look completely different.
☀️ Natural light counts too. A north-facing room and a south-facing room can make the same tile look like two different colors.
✨ No surprises at the end. There's nothing worse than finishing your remodel and realizing the tile you loved in the showroom looks different at home.

When you plan your lighting and finishes together, your space looks the way you pictured it, morning, noon and night. 🏡

Behind the Build: Demo Is Underway! 🔨✨

This is the stage where a design plan starts turning into a real space! Demolition is in full swing on one of our current kitchen remodels, and it’s exciting to watch the room open up and make way for everything we’ve planned.

Demo isn’t just about clearing things out. It’s when we get a true look behind the walls and ceilings, so we can confirm the layout, plan around existing ductwork and wiring, and make sure every design decision works in real life, not just on paper.

A big thank you to our partners at Blue Line Remodeling & Construction, LLC for the careful, detail-focused work. Their crew has dust containment in place and is handling every step with care, keeping this project right on track. 💙

Stay tuned as this kitchen goes from demo to dream. We can’t wait to share the transformation!

Mood board day = decision day !!

This is the part of the process that saves you money and stress later.

When we build a selections board, we are not just picking pretty finishes. We are checking how materials behave together in real lighting and real life:

- Undertones (warm vs cool grays)
- Texture (smooth tile next to woven fabrics)
- Contrast (matte black hardware and plumbing so it feels grounded)
- Repeat (patterns that feel intentional, not busy)

These mood boards help clients in Kalamazoo and across Southwest Michigan make confident choices before anything is ordered.

Question for you: when you are picking finishes, do you start with the floor, the countertop, or the hardware?

Mid-century basement remodel, but make it functional for real life!

A lot of basements start out as a blank box with a staircase in the middle and no real plan for how people will actually use the space.

For this one, the goal was a true hangout zone with mid-century vibes and kid friendly function. The floor plan did the heavy lifting first, so the fun stuff (built-ins, arcade zone, lounge seating) had a place to land.

A few decisions that made the layout work:
- TV wall + built-in bench seating to keep the room open
- Storage built into the run under the stairs (because basements need a home for all the things)
- Clear circulation path so you are not weaving around furniture
- Dedicated game zone so it feels intentional, not like random stuff got shoved downstairs

If you were finishing a basement, what would you build first: a cozy lounge area or a game zone?

From rendering to real life 👀

One of the biggest reasons we build a project in 3D first is simple: it lets you make the big decisions before construction starts.

In this master bath, the rendering helped us lock in:
✅ Tile scale + layout (so the room doesn’t feel busy)
✅ The shower accent strip placement (a clean focal point without stealing the show)
✅ Warm brass finishes against deep charcoal tile (contrast that still feels timeless)
✅ Tub deck + window relationship (so it feels intentional, not “leftover space”)

When the plan is clear up front, you get fewer surprises, fewer change orders, and a smoother build.

Would you rather see a 3D rendering before you start a remodel, or do you like to decide as you go?
