We love getting emails from our customers!

“Sailing out of San Juan passage heading north. I always have a strong sense of gratitude for you all when I’m under way and it’s so lovely and quiet except for the water and breeze.” Greg Monaco, Baba 35

Thank you for giving us permission to share Greg! Safe sailing! ⛵️

A little sailmaking starts here. ⛵️

Next week at the Wooden Boat Festival, young builders will get the chance to make their very own wooden sailboats—and we’re happy to play a small part.

With wood generously donated by Edensaw and sail materials donated by Port Townsend Sails, kids can build, rig, and eventually set their little boats afloat.

We love seeing the concentration, creativity, and pride that goes into each one. For some, it may just be a fun afternoon at the festival. For others, it might be the beginning of a lifelong relationship with boats, sailing, and the water.

We’ll be at the Wooden Boat Festival, September 11–13. Come see what’s being built!

We’re pleased to share that Port Townsend Sails is once again taking orders for new sails!

After a three-month pause, we’re back at work designing and building the custom cruising sails we’ve been making for nearly five decades. Our schedule is currently booking into January 2027.

If you’ve been waiting to get started on a new sail—or reached out to us earlier this year and were asked to wait—we’d love to hear from you.

Give us a call or get in touch with the loft to start the conversation.

A close look at the baseball stitch used to join sections of insulation for our recent yurt project.

The material may be different from what we usually work with, but the careful handwork is right at home in the sail loft. Every once in a while, it’s fun to put familiar skills to work in an unexpected way.

Every once in a while, something unexpected comes through the loft doors.

Recently, that something was insulation for a yurt! The materials were different from those we typically work with, but the project drew on many familiar skills—and gave us a chance to put our tools and experience to work in a new way.

Sailmaking is our specialty, but we’re always happy when our craftsmanship can help meet a unique need in our community. It was a fun change of pace—and now, back to sails!

Today we had a Hank Party in the sail loft!

Designed for a ketch, this custom sail is made from classic light-cream cloth by Contender Sailcloth and finished with a set of vintage hanks, each sewn on by hand.

As roller-furling systems have become more common, we make fewer hank-on sails—so it is always a treat to return to this traditional bit of sailmaking. With 14 hanks to attach, we hung the sail in the loft so sailmakers could jump in between tasks and help get it ready for the boat.

Many hands make light work—and a pretty good Hank Party!

We are proud to see Hasse sails aboard Matt Woodside’s Cape George 36 as he takes on the Golden Globe Race—an extreme, solo, nonstop, unassisted race around the world.

At Port Townsend Sails, building bluewater cruising sails is our specialty, and we are honored that Matt has chosen ours for this incredible journey.

Fair winds and following seas, Matt! We will be cheering you on and following your progress.

Be sure to watch The Boat Geeks interview with Matt to learn more about the boat, the race, and the adventure ahead.
