Kraken Installation

Things I find that just amaze me. Today while replacing a thru hull transducer, I found what must have been installed by the previous owner.
First, it was installed using silicon.
Second, the large nut that holds the transducer in place was only hand tight and the set screw ( only one of two used) was not secured. The scariest part; one of the rubber washers was installed on the exterior of the boat between the hull and the transducer.
I am amazed that this did not fail.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR NEXT TRIP TO THE BAHAMAS!
Effective July 1, 2025, all vessels 50' and over traversing the Bahamas will be required to have AIS (Automated Identification System) and will be required to transmit their position at all times, including while at the dock.
If you do not have an AIS yet, contact me and I will make sure you are ready to go!

PORT AUTHORITIES (AMENDMENT) BILL, 2025
A BILL FOR AN ACT TO AMEND THE PORT
AUTHORITIES ACT
Enacted by the Parliament of The Bahamas
1. Short title and commencement.
(1) This Act, which amends the Port Authorities Act (Ch. 269) shall be cited
as the Port Authorities (Amendment) Act, 2025.
(2) This Act shall come into force on the 1st day of July, 2025............................................................................................................................
7. Insertion of new section 40B into the principal Act.
The principal Act is amended by the insertion, immediately after section 40A of
the new section 40B as follows -
“40B. Automated Identification System.
(1) Every foreign vessel that is in Bahamian waters shall at all
times -
(a) be equipped with an automated identification system;
(b) ensure that the automated identification system is
properly functioning; and
(c) ensure the automated identification system is turned
on.
(2) For the avoidance of doubt subsection (1) applies whether the
foreign vessel is -
(a) docked in The Bahamas;
(b) traversing the waters of The Bahamas; or
(c) passing through The Bahamas.
(3) Where a foreign vessel contravenes subsection (1), the owner
of the vessel and the master commits an offence and is liable,
on summary conviction to a fine of one thousand dollars.”.
