Happy Labor Day from !

Today, we recognize the people whose hard work keeps our communities moving forward. From the field to the office, and everywhere in between, thank you to those who dedicate their skills, time, and effort to making a difference every day.

In observance of Labor Day, our offices will be closed on Monday, September 7, and will reopen on Tuesday, September 8.

A healthier, greener Pontiac is taking root. 🌳💚

Decades of deferred tree maintenance can't be solved overnight, but the progress being made through Pontiac's Urban Forestry Grant is remarkable. From hundreds of trees being pruned to critical removals and a complete tree inventory, this effort is helping create a safer and more vibrant community.

Congratulations to the City of Pontiac, on this accomplishment and the continued investment in its neighborhoods.

Work associated with the Urban Forestry grant that Pontiac was awarded continues: 130 tree removals have been completed & over 770 trees have been pruned. Here’s the tree canopy on West Beverly after pruning. I think it looks great. We know we have decades of deferred (AKA almost none for decades) tree maintenance throughout our city, but this gets us a lot farther down the road for this need. The grant also got us a full tree inventory for our city, which prioritized which trees were too far gone and needed to be removed.

The Van Houtte family has been farming in Southeast Michigan since the 1940s, and their commitment to providing fresh, locally grown produce continues through the next generation. This week, they generously brought sweet corn, melons, tomatoes, and more for our employees to enjoy.

Last Friday, we celebrated the conclusion of our 2026 Internship Program with presentations and a farewell luncheon.

Summer internships are about more than gaining technical experience. They are about building relationships, learning from mentors, exploring career paths, and growing professionally. Our interns did all of that and more.

We're proud of the effort, curiosity, and positive attitudes they brought to NFE this summer. Thank you for spending part of your journey with us, and congratulations on a successful internship season!

🐾 We're grateful for the opportunity to support the Michigan Animal Rescue League (MARL) and the incredible work they do for animals in need throughout our community.

Thanks to the generosity of our team, we were able to deliver a truckload of donated supplies to help support MARL's mission. The MARL staff shared their heartfelt appreciation and asked us to pass along their thanks to everyone who contributed.

On National Professional Engineers Day, we're proud to recognize the Professional Engineers whose knowledge, leadership, and commitment help improve the communities we serve every day.

We also celebrated our August birthdays and work anniversaries this morning over bagels and cream cheese from Bagel Spot Deli & Grill. It was a great opportunity to connect, celebrate milestones, and recognize the people who helped make NFE successful.

🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️ Another exciting investment in Royal Oak future!

The City of Royal Oak has received a commitment of more than $3 million in federal funding through MDOT's Transportation Alternatives Program to support improvements along the 11 Mile Road corridor. Planned enhancements include a new shared-use pathway, upgraded crossings, improved lighting, and other features designed to create safer and more accessible connections for people walking, biking, using transit, and driving.

Congratulations to the City of Royal Oak on securing this funding and continuing to invest in a more connected, vibrant, and multimodal community for residents and visitors alike.

Last Friday, the NFE team came together for our 6th Annual Employee Co****le Tournament & Food Truck Party, enjoying an afternoon filled with laughter, team camaraderie, and a little healthy competition. Events like these are a great reminder that some of our strongest connections are built right outside the office.

A big congratulations to our 2026 Co****le Champions, Allen Eizember and Jason Longhurst, for taking home the title and earning a year of bragging rights! 🎉
