Q. What improvements qualify for the residential energy property credit for homeowners?
A. In 2018, 2019 and 2020, an individual may claim a credit for (1) 10 percent of the cost of qualified energy efficiency improvements and (2) the amount of the residential energy property expenditures paid or incurred by the taxpayer during the taxable year (subject to the overall credit limit of $500).

Qualified energy efficiency improvements include the following qualifying products:

Energy-efficient exterior windows, doors and skylights
Roofs (metal and asphalt) and roof products
Insulation
Residential energy property expenditures include the following qualifying products:

Energy-efficient heating and air conditioning systems
Water heaters (natural gas, propane or oil)
Biomass stoves

Mikel Abbott has spent the last 37 years in the business of energy efficiency. It all started with solar water heating systems in the 70's and has progressed with technology through the years to transform buildings and homes into energy efficient structures. His passion is determining the most cost effective way to make a structure energy efficient, and that is never accomplished with a cookie cutter.

Mikel has been doing heat loads and energy calc forms since they were done manually with pen and paper. He knows how to work with a structure to determine what needs to be done to make it energy efficient and pass the energy code with the least possible expense.

Because of his extensive knowledge and expertise, utility companies, municipalities, permitting offices and industry leaders call on Mikel for training and consulting. Let him put his wealth of experience to work for you.
