Pretty cool design. Very clean. Looks like a blast.

The deceptively minimalistic Scrooser looks like a manual push scooter until the electric impulse motor and battery pack kick in. Available in street and non-streel legal versions, the Scrooser strikes an ultra cool pose.

We’re pleased to welcome Adam Craft and Walter Balfour to the Compass team. Adam - shown on the left - and Walter will be focusing on business development for Compass. Not only do they bring sales and client relationship skills to Compass, but both Adam and Walter are accomplished product development professionals in their own right with a number of product design projects under their belt.

Bringing in Adam and Walter is another step in growing Compass. Their addition coupled with the staff at our parent company , MDI, gives our clients a team of experts – all under one corporate umbrella – that will work hand in hand to bring their product to market. This level of expertise and teamwork is something other product design firms simply don’t have at their disposal.

I was honored to be asked to judge senior student projects at the annual Engineering Design Showcase at the UC Davis School of Engineering. This was my 4th year to be a judge. I saw some clever solutions to difficult engineering challenges from the teams I judged. Great program and bright students. Curt.

Hard for some to believe you can burn through $13M and not be shipping a product, especially a cooler. A real fancy cooler but at the end of the day, a cooler. Managing costs, managing vendors and getting a product to the market on schedule and on budget is a tough task.

The coolest cooler on the Internet is in desperate need of some cold, hard cash. For the second time in its short history, Coolest Cooler is running short of money, and is now petitioning investors to raise the funds needed to deliver its goods to its 60,000 paying customers, reports Eater. We’re pleased to welcome Ray Scherer to the Compass team. Ray is one of the most accomplished tooling engineers in the region and he will be a valuable resource for our clients and to our internal staff. Ray will help in the initial design of a part with expertise on material selection, wall thickness and moldability concerns. Once the part is ready for production Ray and his team will provide mold flow analysis, DFM input and produce the final tooling design.

Bringing in Ray is another step in our "Designs That Work" philosophy. His addition along with the resources of our parent company , MDI, gives our clients a team of experts – all under one corporate umbrella – that will work hand in hand to bring their product to market. This level of expertise and teamwork is something other product design firms simply don’t have at their disposal.

Compass Product Design Announces it has Been Acquired by Molded Devices

This transaction gives Compass clients additional resources to bring their products to market.

PLEASANTON, CA. – 05 January 2016 – Compass Product Design, Inc., a full service product design and engineering firm, has been acquired by Molded Devices Incorporated (MDI), a leading plastic molding and contract manufacturing firm. The acquisition provides MDI with a design and engineering service center in Northern California and gives Compass expanded capabilities to offer to their customers.

“By joining with MDI, we will be able to provide our clients with manufacturing resources and capabilities,” said Curt Anderson, IDSA, founder of Compass Design. “We now have the facilities to take a product from the initial concept stage, through design and engineering, prototypes, tooling and into final assembly.” Curt will be staying on with Compass after the acquisition.

Compass will continue to operate out of its Pleasanton headquarters. No changes are expected with the staff.

The acquisition of Compass is part of a strategy to provide MDI customers with a complete product development, manufacturing and assembly solution. In addition to Compass, MDI also acquired Bates Industries, an OEM provider of disposable medical devices and components located in South Glens Falls, NY.
