At Horrocks, we know that innovation often starts with one person willing to solve a problem. That's what happened when Kelly Roy, Utility Coordination Manager in our Phoenix office, identified a gap in Arizona's utility marking standards for engineering design work.
Working with the on (ACC) and building on efforts that began during her time with the , Kelly helped develop new color-coding options for informational and engineering design purposes, including Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) markings.
These two new color options, gold and silver, have been approved by rule for Arizona non-excavation markings and are now being implemented across the state, with the potential to influence similar practices across the industry.
"This is a significant advancement not only for Arizona but for the industry nationwide,” said Michael Wilke, Senior Utility Engineer at Horrocks. “Before Kelly, many people weren't aware this was an issue at all, and she stepped forward and led the effort to address it.”
Horrocks is proud to support professionals like Kelly whose expertise and integrity help move our industry forward. Great work!
