Crews on the I‑25 Improved: Comanche to Montgomery project recently reached a major milestone, placing 12 bridge beams—each weighing up to 83 tons—for the new eastbound Montgomery Bridge in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

This project is modernizing one of Albuquerque’s busiest corridors with upgrades that enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and replace aging infrastructure.

Key improvements include:
- Widening I-25 in both directions
- Reconstructing the Comanche and Montgomery interchanges with new bridges and reconfigured ramps
- Improving frontage road connectivity
- Adding barrier-separated shared-use paths for pedestrians and cyclists

This project was designed to meet growing travel demand and reduce congestion while maintaining access to businesses and neighborhoods throughout construction. The design‑build delivery method allows the team to advance design and construction simultaneously — supporting innovative solutions, greater efficiency, and reduced traffic impacts.

Thank you to the crews and our partners for all their work on this project:

Major win: the Above-Surface Utility Project in Salt Lake City, Utah, is officially complete!

This project sought to bring Salt Lake City’s subsurface utilities above-ground, allowing the local community a closer look at the previously hidden infrastructure they rely on.

“I had no idea how much infrastructure we had beneath us!” shared a community resident, April Fool, “This will be a great reminder of the many utilities we use each day.”

Construction is underway at the 215 Beltway and Summerlin Parkway Interchange in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Once complete, the reconstructed interchange will feature direct and semi-direct ramp movements, braided ramps, and a southbound collector‑distributor system to reduce congestion and boost efficiency between the closely spaced interchanges.

To fit this complex configuration within tight right‑of‑way and utility constraints, our engineers incorporated:

• 4 new highway bridges
• 1 widened highway bridge
• 3 shared‑use path bridges
• 35 retaining walls

“This design embodies what sets Horrocks apart—finding innovative solutions to complicated problems in uber-constrained environments,” Shared Design Manager, Lance Hammons. “Our team always finds a way to get the job done while maintaining the highest standard of quality.”

This interchange will serve as a vital link to ongoing and future developments in Clark County while reducing travel times and improving safety for the traveling public. Horrocks is proud to partner with the Clark County Department of Public Works as the lead engineers on the project, helping deliver infrastructure that supports the region’s continued growth.

Congratulations to the Clark County Department of Public Works on receiving the Southern Nevada ASCE Branch’s Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement award for this project.

It takes more than luck to design bridges, water systems, or any structure around you. St. Patrick was known for the construction of churches, clay work, and arch building. He even revolutionized the use of lime mortar masonry across Ireland. These advances in Irish construction earned him the title of the patron saint of engineers.

This St. Patrick's Day, join us in showing appreciation for all the dedicated professionals who help shape our world by tagging the engineers in your life below! 🍀

Last month, Horrocks’ Construction Management (CM) State Leads gathered in Las Vegas, Nevada, for our first-ever CM Summit.

Horrocks’ CM Business Line Leaders, Lee Nitchman and Lee Jacoby, led the summit, focusing on strategy and team culture. Attendees did a hard-hat tour of the Hoover Dam and the Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge and heard from Deryl Mayhew about building and maintaining trusted employer-employee connections.

“It was really nice to have everyone there, face to face, sitting in the same room,” said Lee Jacoby. “It felt like such a strong team.”
