Capturing our manufacturing team on medium format film with a camera from the 1950s! What part of your shop would you like to capture with a camera like this??

Manufacturing on Film.

As part of an ongoing visual storytelling initiative, we brought a vintage Tower Reflex medium format film camera into our facilities to create a photographic study centered on the relationship between our team members and the machines that support their work. These photographs offer a unique perspective on the people and processes that define our operation.

Bill Tuggle runs the Machine Shop at Regal Research but his journey as a machinist began long before.

Bill started his manufacturing career back in 1981, learning how to run his first parts on a Hardinge one-arm bandit. Since then, he has learned countless lessons on what makes a good machinist, and what it takes to manage a shop floor.

In our conversation with Bill, he shares the insights and perspective of a seasoned manager in manufacturing. He discusses how the shop floor has evolved over time, what it takes to be a standout machinist, and how he builds trust and communication with his staff while guiding them as they grow their skills and quality.

Our art lives under spindle lights, measured in thousandths and shaped by experienced hands.

Swipe through a few gallery-worthy moments from the shop floor.

Which shot would you hang on the wall of your shop? 1️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣ 4️⃣ 5️⃣ 6️⃣ or 7️⃣? ⬇️

Mike Wolter began his journey in Manufacturing nearly 6 decades ago and he was our first employee back in 1979. His knowledge of his craft and the legacy he has left at Regal Research are legendary and impossible to capture in just a photo post (we tried).

Check out our latest YouTube video where he sat down with us to have a chat before officially retiring. Take notes because he had plenty of Machinist wisdom to share!
