It was a pleasure hosting Mill Creek Schools / Cascade College and Career Readiness PLTW Engineering students at Banning Engineering for an immersive, real-world engineering experience. From site development and design to presenting projects before a mock commission board, students got a firsthand look at how collaboration and problem-solving bring projects to life. We loved sharing what we do and seeing the next generation of engineers in action!

Thank you so much to Jeff, Jon, DeeDee, and the whole crew Engineering for their gracious hospitality!

Our PLTW Engineering students recently had the opportunity to step into the world of professional civil engineering with an immersive experience at Banning Engineering. ‪Students worked through a simulated real-world site development project from start to finish, learning how engineering concepts move from an idea to a fully developed plan. Throughout the experience, multiple departments from Banning Engineering shared how their teams contribute to the development process, giving students firsthand insight into careers in civil engineering, design, planning, and project management. The experience concluded with students presenting their final designs to the Banning Commission Board, where they defended their decisions, explained their process, and responded to professional feedback just like real engineers. This partnership provided students with authentic, hands-on learning that connected classroom skills to real industry expectations while helping them build confidence in communication, collaboration, and problem-solving.

Yesterday was a great day out on the road with Leadership Hendricks County!

We’re proud to have our own DeeDee Leonard as part of the 2026 class, and even prouder that Jeff Banning continues his tradition of leading the annual Infrastructure & Resources bus tour. Jeff’s deep knowledge of Hendricks County, and the stories behind how it’s grown, always make this a standout experience for the class.

This year, Jeff was joined by former Avon Town Council President Marcus Turner, and together they brought a wealth of insight and perspective to the day.

The tour also included stops and presentations from Katy Cummings with Parks Foundation of Hendricks County, Will Lacey with Danville Parks and Recreation, Jim Boles with the Town of Plainfield Wastewater Treatment Plant, Tracy Guerrero and Nick Summers with the Indianapolis Airport Authority, Brent Anderson with the Plainfield Fire Territory, Thomas Smallwood with Waste Management - Twin Bridges Security Landfill, and Max Orsini with Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. Not to mention all of the sponsors that helped make the day possible! Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to make the day such a success.

It truly takes a village—and we have a darn good one!
