Foresight Land Services is dedicated to providing you, our clients, with coordinated engineering, surveying, planning, and environmental permitting services. We have built our reputation in the Berkshire region by performing services that are creative, fast, accurate, responsive and well managed. Foresight has served the Berkshire region since 1967 (when it was known as Brown Associates). Our head
quarters are located in the Foresight Building in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Our staff includes professional engineers and surveyors registered in the states of Massachusetts and New York. Two of our principals have been with the firm for over thirty years. Specialized facilities of Foresight Land Services include up-to-date AutoCAD™ Civil 3D computer Assisted Design/Drafting ("CAD") hardware and civil engineering and surveying software. Our precision surveying instrumentation uses computerized automated data collection that is fully integrated with our office computer system, allowing quick, accurate and efficient data entry, analysis, and compilation. Where sites allow, we use a “Robotic” Total Station and/or GPS systems to further increase efficiency and reduce costs of survey data collection. Electronic drawing and data files compatible with similar systems utilized by other consultants allow rapid interchange of data on team projects. Most importantly, we have the highly skilled and motivated personnel to utilize the capabilities of high technology without losing sight of basic principles and common sense. Foresight's professional practice combines the personal attention of a Principal with a team approach to project development. We have many years of experience in site planning, civil engineering design, environmental and zoning permitting services, and sitework construction administration for residential, commercial, industrial, educational and institutional developments, as well as public works for state and municipal agencies, and all phases of surveying and mapping. Our staff includes experts in wetland delineation, soils evaluation, and environmental “low impact” design. We frequently team up on building projects with architects and landscape architects to perform the civil/sitework design. On other land development projects we act as team leader working with specialized sub-consultants in such areas as traffic analysis, wildlife biology and endangered species surveys and protection, geotechnical studies, and landscape architecture. Many of our projects include designing and permitting for work near environmentally sensitive wetlands and endangered wildlife habitats: ponds and dams for fire protection, recreation and wildlife, retaining walls, stream bank stabilization measures, and stormwater management measures, both temporary during construction and permanent Best Management Practices. We have also designed many small municipal and institutional sewage collection and disposal systems, and water supply, treatment and distribution systems. Foresight strongly advocates for early analysis of environmental and other feasibility issues and alternatives to assist our clients during the critical schematic design phase. This approach pays dividends by avoiding later re-designs to address these concerns. Foresight serves many municipalities as consultants on civil engineering, planning, and peer reviews. Our public sector work includes surveying, design, construction documents and administration of sitework construction contracts for road reconstructions, streetscape improvements, and village planning. These include many MassDOT and municipal roads, culverts, bridges, pipelines and other infrastructure projects. Foresight is prequalified by MassDOT for a variety of services including Roadway Design, Hydraulics and Hydrology, Construction Observation, Wetlands Delineation, Assessment and Mitigation, Water Quality Mitigation and Surveying Services. We are proud of our long-term commitment to designing projects that are environmentally sensitive, low-impact, and sustainable. This has been a hallmark of Foresight’s practice for decades, long before “green design” became a buzz word. Many of our projects in recent years have been designed for certification under the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) system. The number, diversity, and scope of our projects illustrate the multiple capabilities of our staff. To date, we have successfully completed over 6,000 projects. We have been selected by numerous private clients and developers, as well as federal, state and local agencies. Over the years, our projects have been challenging, prestigious, time-consuming, fun, sometimes deceptively simple, often frustratingly complex, but always interesting, and always important to us and to our clients. While we are proud of our accomplishments, we focus our efforts and attention on the future. We constantly strive to the best of our abilities to understand our clients’ needs and to provide solutions – well-designed, environmentally sound, and cost effective – to meet your requirements.
