One of the questions we get asked most often: what underlayment do we recommend?

There are plenty of great products out there, but these two have stood the test of time, especially in our brutal desert heat:

1. Westlake Royal MetalSeal HT
This underlayment has a long, proven track record in hot climates. When installed correctly, it will protect your home well beyond its 30-year warranty. It also holds up for up to 6 months of direct sun exposure during construction, giving your project plenty of breathing room.

2. Sharkskin Ultra
Since hitting the market in 2006, Sharkskin Ultra has earned the #1 spot among many Arizona metal roofing contractors, and for good reason. With a 50-year warranty, heat resistance up to 280°F, and the flexibility to wrap tightly around fascia and roof penetrations, it's hard to beat. It also offers up to one full year of UV protection while exposed, making it ideal for longer construction timelines.

With our deep background in roofing, we know that work doesn't always happen during manufacturing business hours. So, we make it a priority to be available outside of the standard Monday through Friday hours.

This past Saturday, our Production Manager, Flint Byman, joined by his daughter, Ada, met with developer Chris Anderson and Angel Guillen from Angel Roofing at a project in Paradise Valley.

Chris faced a unique challenge involving the transition between the soffit, fascia, and a high eave on his project. Flint was able to develop a creative fabrication solution that met the construction requirements while preserving the clean design aesthetic Chris wanted.

Flint’s perspective comes from years of experience, having been involved in millions of square feet of metal roofing projects across design, installation, and now manufacturing. He’s seen just about every configuration there is.

While our "bread and butter" might be standing seam panels, trim, soffits, fascia and commercial coping, our favorite days are often the ones that catch us off guard where we're able to help a customer in a pinch.

Yesterday, for example, we didn’t have chimney cap fabrication on the schedule. But when one of our local roofing partners reached out with a specific "can you make this happen… by tomorrow?" request, we got to work.

While we’ll likely never be fabricating chimney caps day-in and day-out, we’ll always be ready to help a customer in a pinch.
