The winter storm is upon us! See below for important safety reminders:
Automatic Standby:
Keep the area on the sides and front clear of snow to ensure unit will start. If it sucks in a ton of snow it can freeze up the air intake and stall out.
Remember to check the oil every 24 hours of use following the attached procedure.
Generator can take any standard oil in an emergency, but 5w-20 or 30 full synthetic is recommended.
To conserve fuel, limit use of high demand appliances such as electric stoves, dryers, etc.
If you choose to shut off your generator at night to conserve, follow the same procedure as attached. Do NOT turn generator on or off with the generator circuit breaker turned on. It will cause damage to items in your home.
PORTABLE:
NEVER run a portable generator inside. Not even in a detached garage. Co is a leading cause of death and injuries during long power outages. Just don't do it.
Keep fuel on hand for your outage. Standard fuel tanks last about 8 hours under half load.
Always keep generator exhaust pointed away from your home!
Stay safe!
