Rhode Island's REGENT just closed a $240 million Series B to scale up Seaglider manufacturing.

The Viceroy is a 12-passenger all-electric craft that floats on its hull in the harbor, rises onto hydrofoils through the chop, then flies in ground effect within one wingspan of the water. Up to 180 mph. And despite the wings, it's certified by the Coast Guard as a vessel, not by the FAA as an aircraft.

Holding tolerances across hull, foil, and flight loads is a hard engineering problem. We're excited to follow where this one goes.

The 90-Line PRO family is here. Penta-prism right angle beam benders in a new 2" x 2" housing that matches the beam centerline of Pinpoint transmitters and receivers. Square to 0.0006°, which is 0.001 in. over 8 ft. The family comes in three options: the standard 90-Line PRO, the 90-Line-D PRO with a built-in receiver that actively corrects for misalignment, or the 90-Line-DW PRO with the same capabilities in a wireless version.

The DARPA Lift Challenge kicks off this week in Dayton, Ohio, and you can watch the whole thing live. Teams from across the country are pushing to hit a 4:1 payload-to-weight ratio, a benchmark that could reshape vertical-lift aviation.

The Pinpoint Laser Systems team will be tuning in, and we're especially looking forward to seeing Sherman Aeronautics take the field. Their design is unlike anything else in the competition. Picture two winged aircraft tethered wingtip to wingtip, powering up and pulling each other into a massive rotating circle. It's a genuinely creative rethink of how lift can be generated, and we can't wait to see it fly.

Check out the livestream: https://www.youtube.com/live/DIoHi2Pxi-A

Good luck to every team taking to the skies.

Something new is coming to the Pinpoint Laser Systems lineup: an enhanced 90-Line series. Same square reference you trust, now in a 2" x 2" housing matched to the centerline of your Microgage setup. The new 90-Line series lands soon.

NASA's X-59 just hit its target: Mach 1.4 at 55,000 feet.

Those aren't arbitrary numbers. They're the exact conditions the aircraft will fly when it starts passing over U.S. communities so NASA can measure how people perceive its "quiet sonic thump" instead of a sonic boom. That data goes to regulators working on new noise standards, which could reopen supersonic flight over land.

The whole concept rests on shaping the airframe so shock waves never merge into a boom. When the geometry is the technology, precision isn't a detail. It's the entire design.

Our team at Pinpoint is excited to see where these community flights end up. Fingers crossed the X-59 makes a pass over the Boston area.

The future of vertical lift is about to take flight in Dayton.

DARPA just announced the first 72 teams invited to compete in the Lift Challenge, a national competition pushing drone designs to hit a 4:1 payload-to-weight ratio. Today's drones typically sit around 1:1 or lower, so this would be a genuine leap.

The finals run August 6–9 at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, and are free and open to the public. A livestream will also be available on the Lift Challenge YouTube page.

The Pinpoint Laser Systems team will be watching closely. We're excited to see what innovative solutions these great engineering minds bring to the challenge. Good luck to every team taking to the skies.

Some alignments look right but still cause vibration, wear, or repeat work. With laser measurement, you can have verified results you can depend on throughout your facility.

Laser alignment removes the guesswork, giving real-time feedback on position and angular error. Pinpoint's spindle alignment kit uses a cylindrical laser placed in the chuck or spindle bore to project a beam along the centerline, with a receiver mounted on the tool holder, tailstock, or opposing spindle to read it. A few simple steps confirm centerline position and parallelism, whether you're aligning over short or long distances.

The result: consistent results across technicians, fewer alignment-related issues, and faster setup with less second-guessing. Often, one avoided callback justifies the investment.

Precision shouldn't depend on who's holding the tool.

Measuring flatness across large-diameter heat exchanger flanges, some up to 240 inches, requires more than a straight edge and a steady hand. Portable laser alignment equipment can establish a precise reference plane across flanges of virtually any size, capturing real-time deviation data at 0.0001" resolution with full documentation output. Learn how this approach replaced traditional mechanical and optical methods on a recent application:
