3 Reason is the coolest Boat restoration project you’ve seen

1. The boat itself is full of history. Originally named Duracell, it was built by the legendary Mike Plant as a 60-foot racing machine that once held the American record for solo circumnavigation.

2. Most people would pick an easier project that required some glasswork and paint and call it a day. Matt and Janneke - they are doing a full soup to nuts restoration that requires redesigning the cockpit, using advanced composites to rebuild the interior, and more.

3. The project is ditching the noisy diesel engine for a cutting-edge electric propulsion system. By integrating Solid State Marine batteries, Matt is proving that you can have a 60ft sailboat that is fast and uses alternative power - two things that traditionally did not go together in the marine conversation.

Drop these guys a follow! They have a pretty sweet project

Captain Brian Coombs of putting on an early season striper clinic! Not only do our batteries offer up to 2x the power in a smaller footprint, but we also have NEMA compatibility and a Bluetooth app that allows you to track your battery life while you’re on the water. No more having to guess if you can run the MFDs at full brightness, or if you can spot lock on that last hole. Solid State Marine gives piece of mind

Batteries on board! Shoutout to Matt & Janneke of The Duracell Project out of the Pacific Northwest. If you aren’t watching their content on YouTube yet, you definitely should! They are documenting the transformation of the Duracell, a historic sailing boat built by the legendary American sailor, Mike Plant. The project leans heavily into green tech, featuring the installation of an electric propulsion system and a solar array designed for off-grid living. It’s a fascinating look at history reimagined, showing the immense challenge of turning a stripped-out sailboat into a functional living space.
