The Philadelphia Community Corps (PCC) is a Pennsylvania-based nonprofit organization dedicated to revitalizing Philadelphia’s impoverished neighborhoods through a variety of community service projects that focus on making an immediate difference with tangible results. Our flagship project is the demolition and salvage of blighted homes, but the PCC provides for a variety of community service proj
ects, including but not limited to: neighborhood clean ups, weatherizing homes, community gardens, painting murals, whitewashing roofs, tutoring, covering the nonprofit community of Philadelphia on our news blog, and producing infotainment videos about community service projects. Philly Reclaim is the storefront aspect of the PCC - all architectural salvage and reclaimed building materials that come from our job sites goes to Philly Reclaim to be resold, in an effort to minimize the amount of reusable goods going to landfills. We also accept donations of usable building materials, furniture, and antiques (no drywall, carpeting, or oil-based paint please!)
Flexibility is important to us! We will also remain open to supporting any project with both a need and willing volunteers. We want to provide the infrastructure through which idealists and social entrepreneurs can make a difference. We believe that a lack of education is the root of all problems. Every PCC project will consist of an on-site service learning component where we teach people how to help themselves as we help them. Our website, United Philly, will also contain a section of “How to…” type articles with written instructions for replicating our projects, so that anyone interested helping their own community can do so. More than any project, goal, or philosophy, the Philadelphia Community Corps is a living, growing organization that is structured to adapt to the needs of the communities it serves.
