In all my years of experience in the HVAC/R industry one of the trends I have noticed is how the new requirements claim to be innovative and more environmentally friendly when in all actuality, the only thing they do is cost more money and cause more problems. If you take a look at the bigger picture that trend is on a national and even global scale, you can see this throughout governments and the “solutions” they approve and what they provide funding for; all of these “solutions” create an environment where the hemorrhaged cost is poured onto the consumer and the citizens and tax payers. For example, funds are pumped into medications for diseases instead of preventatives or cures because there is money to be made in keeping the people sick.
An HVAC/R industry specific example is the new refrigerant that is being pushed through; this refrigerant is dangerous and poses many opportunities for all sorts of disasters. On top of the new refrigerant, the units being put out are of lower quality, they are more expensive, and they don’t last near as long as older units. Plus, we have people in the news outlets trying to tell homeowners to keep their thermostats to 78 degrees during the day to “cut down on cooling costs”. In reality, all this does is keep your house hot, makes your unit work harder to cool off once you’re home which decreases the life expectancy of the unit, and that makes your electric bill higher because the unit will be struggling to cool the building.
These are all just some examples of people pretending they have a clue of what’s going on in the world in order to fulfill their greed and steal money from the pockets of people struggling. Something needs to change.
