❤️ Love Local History: Fun Fact Fridays!

We’re starting something new here at Full Service Oil & Marine Co.—Fun Fact Fridays!

From time to time, we’ll share a little piece of local history, an interesting story, or a fun fact about Owen County and the people and places that have helped shape our community.

We thought the perfect place to start was with a little history about the beginning of the place we call home!!

Bud Dunavent originally operated Bud’s Auto Sales and moved the business from downtown to this location. In 1964, he acquired the Chrysler franchise, and in 1968, Toyota became part of the business.

I recently had the pleasure of talking with Bud’s wife, Liz, and she shared several memories, including the story of how they became a Toyota dealership: “I remember a man pulling in with several tiny little cars following behind him, and that was quite a sight compared to the cars that were popular at the time. He told Bud he would leave them there to see if he could sell them. Bud was pretty sure there was no way those little cars would sell… but he agreed to give it a try. In a short time, we had sold every one of them!”

🚗 And just like that, Toyota became part of Bud’s business and part of Owenton’s history. Along with automotive sales and service, Bud also worked on chainsaws, boats, mowers, and other small engines.

❤️We have called this location home for over 20 years, and it is truly a privilege to carry on a small part of the legacy Bud and Liz started here with our boat, mower, and small engine repair services today!

We treasure the history of our location and look forward to sharing more stories about the people, places, and history that make Owen County special.
