Day two at IWF: hardware, lumber, and finish

Spent the day on hinges, slides, inserts, lumber, sheet goods, and finishing lines.

None of it's glamorous, but worth getting right before it ever hits a client's kitchen.

Day one at IWF Atlanta 2026 in the books.

Spent the day walking booths and geeking out over machines — always a good day when you're surrounded by that much iron. Seeing what the big manufacturers are pushing forward gives you a real gut-check on where your own shop stands.

Tomorrow's all about hardware — slides, hinges, fasteners, the stuff that makes or breaks a cabinet nobody ever notices until it's wrong.

Shows like this keep me sharp and able to deliver the best product as efficiently as possible.

More to come.

The details are what separate a box with doors from a piece of furniture.

Sneaking up on the fit. Armed with a stack of 1.5mm spacers, the slider, and Kundig edge sander fitting inset doors and drawer faces one pass at a time.

The process:
1. Rough cut oversized on the slider
2. Set into the opening with a 1.5–2mm gap
3.Walk the long sides down on the Kundig, working toward a consistent 1.5mm on each side.
4. Flip to the opposite platen to cope ends to size
5. Check the full reveal on all four sides — nothing's called done until the gap holds true all the way around

Stiles, rails, and reversed raised panels milled and staged for glue-up. parallel clamps on the small drawer fronts, the frame press taking the larger doors and end panels — even pressure, dead flat, no surprises.

Next up: the 25mm upper cabinet doors.

Proud to have played a small part in getting HANNA KUHNS's work ready for MODUS fine art — one of Coeur d'Alene's newest art spaces. Hanna designed a clever, one-of-a-kind frame system for this piece and I got to bring it to life. If you're in Coeur d'Alene, go check out her work and the rest of the gallery.

This is where a kitchen starts to feel like furniture instead of cabinetry. Rift white oak, broken down on the sliding table saw, one opening at a time — grain matched before a single piece goes to finish size. Everything gets milled rough first, then rests and acclimates before I bring it down to true dimension. Slow process, but it's the only way the grain reads right across the whole run.

The new shop performed great on it's first kitchen build, so I’m treating it to a little thank-you gift. Currently at Martin in Charlotte trying to figure out what will make it the happiest. Jointer? Shaper? Planer? Decisions, decisions.

I wanted to give you a better look at the layout and the overall vibe of our space. absolutely nailed it with these shots—capturing the big windows, the rustic textures, and the heart of our daily operations.

Watch till the end to see exactly where your custom pieces come to life.

Back for another round with for a workshop focusing on curved European passage doors. It was a great four days collaborating with other seasoned woodworkers on this mahogany door build. Nothing beats trading techniques with people who live and breathe the craft.

When the client takes "inspecting the joinery" to a whole new level.

This is The Oblique № 7 - a custom dining table in White Ash and African Mahogany. From the sliding dovetail tusk-bridle joints to the velvet-smooth solid top, every detail was built to be seen (even from the floor, apparently).

It’s not every day you get a client who appreciates the underside of a table as much as the top.

If you’ve been looking for a custom table or have another project in mind, I’d love to hear about it. Send me a DM and let’s talk about building something for your space.
