The best of Orlando
This is Lake Eola in downtown Orlando bathed in love. What you can’t easily see is the rainbow colored building painted to remember Pulse. What you can’t see is Arab Fest taking place & the Frog Foodtruck vending. What you can’t see is thousands of people walking their dogs, homeless hanging out & families playing with their children in harmony...Blissfully unaware & not in need of divisiveness in society. What you can see is humanity at its best. THiS is Orlando.
I saw a man share coins with children so they could make a wish in a fountain. I watched him part of society, appreciated- defined at that moment as community. Nothing more & nothing less. At that moment he was not part of a homeless problem.
In the shadow of Pulse our legacy is love. If ever we have turned a moment of hate into love it’s now. We are larger than that moment of hate. We chose to remember, love & celebrate Orlando through its people & sweet breeze gliding over the lake. In the shadow of mass shootings in this nation I hope others see the daily hope. We worked hard to get here. We’ve earned every simple moment of happiness.
