WHAT IS OEM+?

OEM+ is a term we created at FIBA Motorsport to describe an OEM part reimagined for the modern age.

As DSMs continue to age, genuine OEM parts are becoming increasingly difficult to source, with many already discontinued. Rather than simply reproduce a part exactly as Mitsubishi did 30+ years ago, we look at how modern materials and manufacturing methods can improve strength, longevity, and availability while maintaining OEM fit and function.

The 1G DSM is approaching nearing 40 years old and the 2G DSM is over 30 years old. These cars have become modern classics, and keeping them on the road requires solutions that didn't exist when they were originally designed and it is time for the modern era to take over!

At FIBA Motorsport, we develop OEM+ components using modern manufacturing technologies including SLS industrial printing, CNC machining, laser cutting, fabrication, and soon injection molding.

It's been a little while since we've posted some orders heading out β€” sorry about that!

The products have still been moving, but between development work, designing new parts, and the photo booth becoming a storage area for a while πŸ˜‚, we haven't had many opportunities to grab pictures.

Thankfully that's all sorted now, so you should start seeing more products and customer orders being featured again!

So, what's heading out today?

Many of you already know this tool. It's become an essential addition for anyone building, maintaining, or working on a 4G-based engine.

Being able to remove and torque crank bolts by yourself is a huge advantage, but that's only part of it. The tool also allows you to safely lock the crankshaft while working on the transmission side, eliminating the need to jam screwdrivers into ring gears or risk damaging expensive components.

No broken teeth, no frustration, and a significant time saver in the workshop.

Do we have anyone who has a decent OEM 2G AWD fuel hanger that can lend it to us for a while? We started a project but never fully finished it and wish to continue this development! for the greater good of course, in our OEM+ standards!!!

We are trying to work on a replacement that is a bolt-in and as direct as possible.

We understand plug and play is key but some items are tricky to redo. But we understand the OEM form is most ideal!

We would like to work with as many replaceable parts as possible for the serviceability but also upgradeable where possible for upgraded chassis on the OEM tanks (which is 90% of owners)
The OEM connector is a tricky one but options are available to replace that for a more up-to-date device. Wiring is needed to do so but at least this allows replacement parts long term VS OEM Mitsu shutting the door on impossible finds for replacements!

So instead of welding in joints and tubes, we would use bolt in fuel safe AN fittings to allow upgrades to be used. This opens up various forms of use from OEM to upgraded, where things can be swapped safely and effectively to suit feed and return size lines.

Of course, we could go for an exact OEM-sized option, but then as we have learned over the years, people want to go further and beyond the limits of what OEM can really do! And while revising the item, we can safely incorporate these things ahead of time.

If someone has a decent enough OEM unit to lend us we will happily work our magic and see what can be done.

From the very beginning, our goal has been to develop high-quality aftermarket and OEM+ solutions that help keep these chassis alive, supported, and progressing forward.

Many of the products we create are parts larger companies have discontinued, overlooked, or simply never attempted to produce. By supporting FIBA Motorsport, you are directly supporting continued development for the platforms we all care about.

2G DSM Manual Quick Rack Update πŸ‘€πŸ”₯

We’ve had some more names come in for the FIBA / Quaife 2G DSM Manual Quick Racks… but we still need a few more committed people to make this happen once again!

For those unfamiliar with what a β€œquick rack” actually is, here’s why these are such a big deal.

The quick rack changes the steering ratio from the factory 2.55 to an ultra-responsive 2.1 ratio β€” bringing it much closer to the steering feel many people love from the EVO platforms. In simple terms, less steering wheel input results in more steering angle at the wheels, giving the car a far more direct and connected feeling.

This isn’t just a modification… it completely changes the personality of the chassis.

So what does the manual quick rack actually offer?

βœ… Incredible steering feedback and road feel
βœ… Faster and more responsive steering input
βœ… Reduced weight and less parasitic drag on the engine
βœ… No hydraulic pump, lines, seals, or fluid maintenance
βœ… No leaking pumps destroying alternators
βœ… Long-term mechanical reliability with essentially zero maintenance

The result is a driving experience that feels raw, precise, connected, and confidence-inspiring. Many people who switch to manual racks say it feels like the car finally β€œtalks” to the driver properly. Having that connection makes a huge difference.

And for those wanting to retain assisted steering, EPAS options are still available through another DSMer who originally helped produce conversion units for these setups. More and more owners are moving away from aging hydraulic systems and over to electric assist solutions for the flexibility and reliability benefits they offer.

At FIBA Motorsport, we are extremely proud to have brought these back around for another potential batch because parts like this simply do not exist anymore for the DSM platform. No one else will tackle projects like these.

However, this is also the reality of small-batch reproduction parts:

If this group buy does not complete, this will likely be the final attempt for the 2G DSM platform. Once gone, they are gone.

We currently have the ONLY remaining rack not installed into a car already β€” and honestly, it is starting to feel more like a museum/display piece at this point πŸ˜‚

After this, focus will move toward the upcoming 1G DSM manual rack program and future OEM+ development projects.
