The secret has been out for a while. Steven (Pro.Mod.Steve) took some time off from racing after the last outing. However, racing is in his blood and he couldn’t stay away forever. He reached out to us for the next car build. He doesn’t share any details so all we know is he plans on being quicker and faster than before.

Schmidl has been cruising his turbo’d ‘57 and making 5.70 passes in it recently, too. He’s also got another Tri-Five Chevy in the shop getting a full makeover. The red ‘55 has come a long way since he committed to getting started on it.

Out back, it’s mini tubbed to make room for 10” wheels and plenty of rubber to be ran by a custom Moser Engineering 9 inch with a 3.70 wave trac and adjustable 4-link. Ridetech front a-arms and advocate coil-over shocks front and back round up suspension duties. Under the hood is now a Gen 4 aluminum 5.3 stock-bottom-end deal with the usual cam spring swap. The turbo cam came from Brian Tooley Racing to compliment the Precision Turbo & Engine 76mm turbo blowing through a custom a/w intercooler. Holley supplied the EFI for engine management. E85 is pretty available in this area so Chris wants a flex-fuel sensor set up for the times that 91 octane is all that’s available. Holley also supplied front mid-mount accessory drive with ac. We’re really liking how clean and tight the mid-mount kit fits. Vintage Air, Inc. hooked us up with the a/c kit.

Next up is door skins, seat fitment and finish up all welding. Then it’s off to frame paint and full body paint. Thats when the fun really begins; making it his go anywhere/anytime streetcar, that is. Hp goal is high 600s to the tires and jump in and go on 300 mile trips with the a/c on high, if needed.

The Valiant…

James’ Super Bee got back onto the calendar, recently. There’s a little bit of final welding to finish on the chassis still but carbon/tin work are up next. With the plan to powder coat the chassis, it will basically be a finished car before tear down for coating and final assembly.

Tri-Fives have been a hot topic around here for the last couple years. We’ve had a few come through for cage and mini tub. This black’55 is the latest one we finished up. Little bigger tire, stronger rear axle, seats and a tight fitting cage. ✅
