Hey everyone.

The bad news: Due to my wife's sudden illness starting in late June 2016, and deterioration of my own health over the previous year 2-3 years. I abruptly gave up my dream (at least for now) ane closed the shop in Orem in mid July. I haven't been active on social media in general since that time. I apologize for the sudden absence. For now, I am not actively pursuing new work related to my business, but have since finished most of the work I had in my shop at the time it was closed, but still have one more small project to finish. Unfortunately, and with regret, one large on-site project did not get finished, partially due to a mistake I made in staffing.

The good news: My wife has been recovering well and has improved very significantly but still has a ways to go to recover fully. The deteriation of my health gained a diagnosis and a treatment in December of 2016. Recovery for takes several months before significant improvements, and a full year to recover completely, assuming no significant permanent damage was done. I am slowly starting to feel better. My free time and available energy continue to increase as my health, and the health of my wife, continue to improve.

I am starting to pick up the pieces, sort through the huge mess created from the hasty shutdown, and I'm organizing for a much smaller operation. Some parts, tools, and other equipment will be sold with proceeds going to reimburse for the unfinished large project and other debts. There is alot to do, but I plan to continue working towards the goal of conducting at least a small amount of work at home and on-site in the not too distant future. Then we'll see how far I can take from there. I'll go nuts if I'm not doing some welding, fabrication, and repair work. It's part of me now, it's what I love doing that is why I'll keep heading that direction.

Stay tuned. I'm getting more active in social media again and I'll post updates and pictures on how things are progressing at an increasing rate as I move forward. Those that know me more personally have given me some work, and I will continue to do what I can for them. I will begin responding to requests for work sent through Facebook about once a week, but may have to pass on many of them. The work I do take on is at reduced rates, especially when turn around time will be slow.

I want to thank family, friends, neighbors, and even customers that helped my family and I during very difficult times. Many were extremely generous with time, money, borrowed equipment, and a whole lot of patience over the last 7 months, and even long before that as my health deteriorated. My family and I are extremely grateful and feel very blessed to have such wonderful people in our life.

Gates recently built and installed by us. One large gate and one small gate filling a span of more than 18 feet. We build custom, hand made, heavy duty, long lasting, yet beautiful, ornamental gates, railings, and fences. Why should you buy custom hand made ornamental products over cheaper mass produced products? What we build is stronger, has far more character, and the warm feeling you get from hand made pieces that the creator has put part of their heart and soul into. Much of the ornamental iron you see today is cheaply made, does not last, and has no real human element contained in it. Custom hand made pieces include the creators eye for beauty and and his personal touches, as well as his imperfections. No machine made, computer designed/drafted creation will ever match the character and feelings that a hand crafted, functional, yet beautiful piece brings. Do you want a one of a kind unique piece made just for you, and at a reasonable price? Call, text, or email us today for a free quote.

Tip of the day. Straightening tubing. When tubing has been crushed and must be straight you can often straighten it fairly quickly using an appropriate length bolt and nut. See photo. The bigger the surface area on the ends the better. In this case the bend was on the bottom in the photo. I used a flanged nut on the side I didn't want bent, the extra surface area successfully isolated the bend to the unflanged bolt head, at least enough in this case to restore functionality in the part.

Epoxy, Yes or No? Should you try to epoxy a broken steel, cast steel, or cast iron piece back together? My default answer is No and here is why. Unless you get it really clean and have successfully used epoxy in the past, you have a fairly high likelihood of the repair failing. I have gotten several pieces in the shop recently that customers attempted to fix with epoxy first. The problem is that epoxy can be difficult to remove and increases the time required to weld the pieces together. Epoxy must be fully removed to get a good weld. One piece would have been a $20 repair, instead it ended up being $40. Another piece would have been a $10 repair and ended up $30. In both cases the customers would have saved $20 and the cost of epoxy and their time if they had brought it to me first. It is something to keep in mind when deciding how to approach a repair.

Kids in the Pinzgauer with roof pieces set in place to figure out final sizing of the ribs. The new main structural frame over the cargo area is tacked into place and one roof rib tacked into place to check it's fit before weldingthe other four on. Also checking fit of front cap so those ribs are built properly. Frame and ribs will be finished shortly. Then the real fun begins by adding additional features on the frame in the cargo area.

Update on the Suisse Armée Pinzgauer. It is owned by Dave Adams of ADAMS G/3 COLLISION in Orem Utah, just down the street from my shop. We will be helping fabricate, prototype, and design a lot of the mechanical and structural changes being made to what Dave and his son call the "Ultimate Bug Out Vehicle" or "Extreme Off-Road Camper." You can also check Adams G/3 Collision's page for updates as it evolves. There will be some unique, unexpected, and jaw-dropping modifications, so you will want to stay tuned. Did I mention that I love my job?

Newest project to roll into the shop. A Suisse Armée Pinzgauer. Fun, exciting, and just plain cool plans for this vehicle. I won't say much until the person I'm working on it with is ready to roll out one of the coolest creations that most people can only dream of having the pleasure to build. There will be plenty of fun and challenging fabrication, prototyping, inventing, and ingenuity involved in bringing it to fruition. Just the way I like it.
