ISO 2768-mK is on more engineering drawings than any other general tolerance callout. 📐

Choosing the wrong class - tighter than needed inflates machining time, looser causes assembly failures.

📌 Part 1 (ISO 2768-1): 4 dimensional classes - f (fine), m (medium), c (coarse), v (very coarse).
📌 Part 2 (ISO 2768-2): 3 geometrical classes - H (high precision), K (standard), L (low precision).
📌 Most CNC machining and sheet metal drawings default to ISO 2768-mK.
📌 A 50mm dimension under class m: ±0.3mm deviation. Under class f: ±0.15mm.

If you're sourcing CNC parts from China, the tolerance class in the drawing title block directly affects your quote price and conformance rate.

📊 The right injection moulding resin is selected in this order: regulatory, thermal, mechanical, cost. Most teams reverse it and over-spec by 20-100x on materials.

PEEK and PEI typically run 20-100x commodity pricing. PPS runs 5-15x. The factory pool that can process them is much narrower - and the wrong resin call locks you into a small supplier base for no functional reason.

➡️ Regulatory: FDA, ISO 10993, food contact, flame retardancy
➡️ Thermal: peak operating temp and continuous-use limits
➡️ Mechanical: load, impact, fatigue, stiffness
➡️ Cost: only after the first three filters narrow the field

80% of real-world part decisions come down to a single test: does your part need to be metal?

➡️ If yes, die casting wins. Aluminium, zinc, or magnesium give you heat transfer, EMI shielding, and stability under load that no plastic matches.

➡️ If plastic works, injection molding wins. Wider material range, lower density, and tolerances down to ±0.025 mm. Glass-filled nylon closes most of the strength gap.

The other 20% - tooling budget, volume, lead time - is secondary. Both processes break even at 5,000+ units, and China tooling runs 30-70% less than comparable Western suppliers.
