The challenge is on!
Welcome to the Orange Fire Marshal’s Office HOME SAFETY PLAN CHALLENGE!
You have until 4:30 pm on Thursday, October 8, 2026 to create your home safety plan with your family! It’s really easy to do! Just follow these simple steps:
1. Draw your home on a piece of paper. When you draw your home, include all the rooms, doors, and windows. When you make your drawing, include the front yard so you can show your meeting place!
2. Show two exits from every room! Many times, your second exit may be a window. Make sure everyone can open the windows in the event of an emergency. Make sure everyone knows not to jump out of a window that’s high above the ground.
3. Show on your drawing where you have smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms installed in your home.
4. Hi boss!
5. Show where you have fire extinguishers in your home.
6. Have fun with completing this family project!
7. Practice your escape plan!
Once you’ve completed your plan, and you’ve practiced it, you can either bring a copy (you need the original!) to the firehouse at 355 Boston Post Rd., or you can email your plan to [email protected].
Please be sure NOT to put your address on the plan. Please note you must be an Orange resident to participate in the challenge.
Please DO put your family’s name, as well as the first name of all who participated in creating the plan on the back side of the drawing.
Those who enter will be eligible to win a $100 gift certificate from Gabriele Italian Ristorante located at 326 Boston Post Rd in Orange, as well as a free ice cream cone from Carvel located at 1081 Bridgeport Ave in Milford for each of the kids who help their parents make their plan!
Everyone who enters will be offered a ride in the bucket of the Orange Volunteer Fire Department’s brand new ladder truck on Saturday, October 17th at their open house and new truck wet down at the Boston Post Rd station!
We would like to thank the following people for making this possible:
-First Selectman James Zeoli. Thank you for supporting our office and all of our (albeit sometimes crazy) safety initiatives!
-Pat Villano and the crew at Gabriele Ristorante Italiano. Pat is always stepping up to help the community.
-Everyone’s favorite hometown meteorologist and ice cream expert Kevin Arnone! Time and time again, Kevin is quick to offer his help!
-YOUR Orange Volunteer Fire Dept. Always helping!
Thank you everyone in advance for participating! We look forward to your safety plans! If you have any questions, give us a shout at (203) 891-4711, stop by the office, or send us an email at [email protected]!
