Greg Nichols pre COVID19 at Thompson Speedway in Connecticut testing the new engine on Project Titan Team Britech’s Rickman Triumph 750cc Long rod. Featuring a long awaited MAP Billet aluminum NICKASIL cylinders.

(I’ll do a complete post about project Titan spanning 2 decades countless race victories including 5 back to back victories in BEARS at Daytona, once I can set up my network computers. All I have now is my phone.)

This video is all about the exhaust note you can hear it very well at the very beginning and the very end when the bike is moving away from the camera. Granted it’s very short periods nonetheless you can distinctly hear how precise the combustion is. It’s just an all day practice session but a lot of track time and learning a great deal. We were coming off a long hiatus after 18 straight seasons a much needed break. With renewed enthusiasm Greg made the tires work. It’s impossible to see in the video but he had her squirming on front brake coming into the ļæ¼chicane ļæ¼

The bike needed a new engine after a long racing career 18 seasons with 14 straight Open GP championship 5 undefeated seasons many many other victories at Daytona MidOhio Barber. During which we had to wait for the technology to catch up to racing conditions for outdated machinery, right around 2015 we had several options on the shelf done we made some we bought from other companies.

Back then before 2012 you had to make practically all your own parts because nobody had much available off the shelf that was ā€œRaceā€ specific.
Key components like; light connecting rods, Nickasil cylinders, CR gears, etc etc. So, I focused on making my own stuff because I wanted to be successful give my team best chance at winning
The name ā€œTitanā€ came from the Titanium Connecting Rods at the very heart ā™„ļø of the project we designed and made mostly in house.
The idea was born out of reality that stock crankshaft and rods won’t hold up racing because RACING breaks stock cranks and connecting rods. NRE Nourish made hardened billet steel crankshafts so the missing part imo was lightweight durable rods. The best choice of material afte much research was 6/AL-4 V titanium. The material is almost a miracle metal it’s 40% the weight of steel and stronger in important ways for the application. Aluminum has too short a lifespan steel everyone else has the same setup so the obvious advantage is Titanium. You couldn’t buy long rods like Triumph 650 so you had to make them yourself. What a blast šŸ’„ it was learning to make them. Many thanks to my mom for all her help and advice and to President Titanium in Hanson Massachusetts for material their help and advice couldn’t have done it without you guys.

Rods and cranks need to be extra strong and light especially when the rest of the tuning set up puts out nearly twice the standard torque then with sticky tires and riders like Greg forget about it. It requires so much modification to produce power and last I can’t tell you in one post.

Anyhow look and listen šŸ¤ž the link works this time

I just came across this in my stuff TriumphDay in the 90’s best of times and worst of times for me personally!
I like everyone else eventually comes to realize and appreciate that life is about living that keeps us pretty busy and sometimes we are lucky enough to have taken pictures documenting these events in life. Nostalgia is a very important thing to humans, it’s like love or passion helps us to be better humans. TriumphDay was all about this the names on the trophies were reflective of our culture. Most attendees were genuinely happy for the winner, this is the one of those posts
