While last year ended on a sad note for the Wiesen family, Red River Machining continues into 2026 to meet your machining needs. Matt left some big shoes to fill, but I (Ryan) am eager to fill them. Many things will stay the same around the shop but some things will change as we are back to being a one-man operation.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support as we look ahead to what lies in store with the new year. Happy New Year to all from the Wiesen family to you and yours!

It is with deep sorrow to report that Heaven gained a new member and welcomed Matt into the Kingdom of God this morning.

The Wiesen family is heartbroken and would greatly appreciate your prayers. Funeral arrangements will be posted tomorrow most likely.

The shop will be closed through Christmas, but we will continue to operate as normal moving forward to meet your machining needs.

Ever have to drill an 1/8" hole through 21" of prehardened steel? We hadn't either until last week! 1/8" x 12" drill drilled from both sides nice and slow on the lathe. That HSS drill sure did like to bend under any chip-load!

Have you ever wondered how quickly you can machine through a sheet of plastic? Ryan did and found out while working on this project for a local bowling alley's protective covers for their pin machines. With some "clamp-dancing" and a 1/2" carbide endmill at the full depth, over 100 inches/minute and over 5000 RPMs was the ticket!

Here are some interesting parts we've had come through the shop lately. One, we called "the dog-bones" and another we called "the skeleton keys" (you'll see why) and there have been some large plates that required some "clamp-dancing."

Personal projects like these are one of the perks of having access to a good CAD/CAM software! This is a toddler bed that was designed and made by Ryan for his 3rd son, Theo. Theo's birthday was yesterday, so say "Hi" and "Happy Birthday" to the little guy!

This is a design for a security lock designed by Ryan years before joining Red River, but Matt machined these at that time for Ryan's church. These were graciously donated back then and still look great and function well! Made from 304 stainless, they won't rust or corrode either!

Today is opening day for goose hunting and I thought this would be a good time to share this project we did. A friend had a pew pew that needed to be permanently modified. I drew up a design based on measurements of what he had and machined a hole in the assembly for a pin to be welded into. This was a first and hopefully not a last in projects like these!

Also, Ryan gets bored sometimes and designs things like these cutouts for some geese 😅 Happy hunting and message with any design and machining needs you may have this season!

We recently did a job that looked like this. They were VERY large. 5" ID and about 10" tall. We had to put a 2" pipe thread on top of 2 of these parts. There was a little bit of a learning curve to these, but they turned out well and are doing their job pumping water!
