HISTORY OF STONE
In February of 2000, Tracy Stone purchased a small, existing machine shop in Kearney, NE so he could produce one piece for a food plant in the food processing industry. He later moved to another location and literally built an apartment in the shop so he could work/live in the same place. With just one employee, things started to grow and it became evident that other food plants had the same needs. In 2002, Tracy purchased a distributor in Wisconsin that produced quality replacement parts to he could start to expand his business. Then in just two years, he purchased a CNC machine shop so they could start producing custom machines and parts. Then in 2007, Stone Enterprises brought on a full-time in-house mechanical engineer. The company found their niche in the food processing equipment and parts sector and made the strategic decision to purchase American Meat Equipment in 2010. The company has now grown to 35 employees (and counting) and despite the size, you will still see Tracy on the shop floor everyday machining parts, fabricating, and being fully involved in the operations. One phrase that he instills in all the people at Stone is “under promise and over deliver”- the same value that started the company is very much part of it still.
