Hey everyone. I’ve been quiet, but it’s time to post something about it 😁

Power Alley needs to take a step back. I’m not closing, but things haven’t been going how I had hoped! I did end up moving out of my shop, and I am still on the hunt for another. I’m not taking new work until I do. This is an active search but could take several months to get the ball rolling again.

Current customers have first priority when a new shop is secured, and I’ll be doing some work in between as my schedule allows.

If I’ve missed your calls, I apologize. I’ll get back in the swing of things soon enough 😎😎

Power Alley Motorsports' online shop is officially LIVE. It is a little barren right now, as I manually build out the site, but you can already buy a wide assortment of FLF PTFE hoses and fittings, with more to come every day. If you would like to purchase something that may not be on the website yet, don't fret. Just send me a DM and I can get you sorted. Even just for custom hoses and fittings, I've got nearly 1,000 more items to enter, not to mention the collection of other go-fast parts I will have to offer, including Motul oils, Fortune Auto coilovers, Garrett turbos, and much more. Head over to https://poweralleymotorsports.com/products to see what we have to offer.

S15 Spec R in for high/erratic idle. Preliminary tests showed functional AAC/FICV, so tried to get it to temp and check base values. Found idle adjustment was out of wack, adjusted that and TPS down to spec, and at 70°, it was doing fine.

Trouble was, after letting it cool again to verify the warmup idle, it WOULD NOT warm up to operating temp! After half an hour we were still at 64°, which puts us in the cold idle loop, so it stayed at 1600.

Little bit more digging showed coolant to be flowing past the thermostat. Swap that bad boy out and all should be good as new.

First time pulling an Evo engine out the top. Usually do a subframe drop for these but needed to roll the car out. Went better than I expected. Keep up over the next few months to watch this get a full engine build and refresh. Poor girl was showing her age!

If you’re looking for a sign to finally start working on your project, this is it. Just giving your car an hour a day, or every other day, can help really get the ball rolling. It doesn’t have to happen fast, progress is progress!

Ever wonder how ABS works?

ABS, or Anti-lock Braking System, exists to provide modulated braking power to the wheels as the brakes are applied hard in order to keep them from locking up, causing dangerous and unpredictable sliding.

The way it works is surprisingly simple. An electromagnetic “pickup” coil detects the metal ridges along this ring, called a “tone ring”. By measuring how many ridges are detected in a given timeframe, it can determine the wheel speed. If the wheel speed on one or more wheels becomes 0 too quickly, the ABS computer will command the pump to assist, reducing the average force applied, allowing your wheels to continue to spin, maintaining traction and control.

In most street cars, ABS can make your car safer, helping to make sure your ability to steer and brake remain yours; however, in many modified cars, where braking systems are carefully tailored for peak efficiency and braking power, the ABS system can be detrimental.

If you are having ABS issues, or are looking to remove your ABS system as you develop your build, reach out. We can make sure your car is set up exactly how you want 😎😎

Maintenance is key. It’s important to realize that mileage is not the sole factor in considering when to replace maintenance items. Age is equally as important.

Oils break down, rubber deteriorates, and hydraulic tensioners get weak. If neglected, this can become very problematic, like they did on this Evo.

If you’re getting into a new-to-you used car, and aren’t sure of the maintenance history, swing by and I can take care of you with a thorough inspection, and help you decide where to start.

I made an oopsie! Can you find it? 😎

In all seriousness tho, a question I get asked all the time is: “Do you do tuning?”

The short answer is, no. I do not offer tuning, not yet!

I haven’t got a dyno, nor have I toyed around with the various softwares enough to be comfortable offering that service quite yet.

However, I DO offer pretty much everything else you might need for a custom build, from assembling an engine to building an ECU to manage it, and I can work with reputable local tuners to get it roadworthy, making sure to take extra care to double and triple check every nut, bolt and transistor 😏😏

We are doing some science today at the shop. Found out the hard way that when installing a 2004 drivetrain into a 1999 chassis, the outer joint of the axle doesn’t fit correctly in the knuckle.

What to do, what to do?

The answer? Hybrid axle build.

Could this solve axle issues many GC guys encounter when V7+ swapping their cars? I’m not sure, but if any Subaru guys have spare axles they wouldn’t mind donating to the cause, I’m keen to find out.
