A Legacy in Lumber

Rick Flodder has over 30+ years of experience running the sawmill, but a lifetime of learning about the wood industry. Rick’s Grandfather, Harry Flodder, was a logger and worked for the local sawmill in Oldenburg, Indiana. Harry’s son, Doc Flodder, learned what he could about trimming, cutting trees and lumber from Harry and used this knowledge doing odd jobs for the people and the town of Oldenburg. Doc passed all his skills onto his son, Rick, who followed him on the job absorbing information and hands on experience working with trees. After high school, Rick worked as a machinist during the day, but continued, along with his father, to do odd jobs trimming and cutting trees. In the late 1980’s Rick purchased a Wood-Mizer portable sawmill and, as they say, the rest is history. Rick has amassed a vast array of knowledge in the industry and strives to treat his customers fairly. Over the years, different equipment has been purchased to expand the services offered. Flodder Sawmilling has a sawmill, kiln, moulder planer, edger and many other tools to provide our clients with the end product customized to their liking. As Flodder Sawmilling expanded Rick’s son-in-law, Chris Kruthaupt, caught the “bug” over the years helping Rick and re-doing a barn addition on his house. Chris joins Flodder Sawmilling in 2018 with an attention to detail from his work as an auto-body technician and will continue, with Rick, to provide the best quality and service to our customers.
