Our first three catalogs. The braid came first. Everything else came after.
The first one has two products in it, 4PR and 8PR, and 4PR was ninety-seven cents a foot. Speaker cable was all we made.
The second added the VS series, still speaker cable only. It carries a starburst on the cover announcing “Now with UNOBTAINIUM,” and another next to it reading “Great for car stereo.”
By the third, in 1995, there were interconnects, PowerKords and our own PostMaster spade connectors. That cover was photographed at a violin making school, because Ray wanted the cables sitting next to instruments that were also finished by hand.
A lot of people were introduced to Kimber for the first time through one of these, sitting on a counter at a dealer.
We would love to know: What was the first system you heard Kimber Kable on? Whose was it, and what was in it? Bonus points if you remember the song!
