3D Scanning vs. CMM Inspection

Traditional CMM inspection measures specific points on a component. 3D scanning captures millions of data points to create a comprehensive digital representation of the part's geometry.

3D scanning is especially valuable when you need to:
• Inspect complex injection-molded components or freeform
• Evaluate part-to-CAD deviations across the entire geometry.�
• Identify warpage, distortion, and shrinkage patterns.�
• Inspect large components or tooling that is difficult to move.�
• Reduce inspection time for complex parts.�
• Document actual part geometry for engineering analysis or reverse engineering.

What is regrind?
Regrind is plastic material recovered from runners, sprues, or rejected parts that is ground up and reused in the process of plastic injection molding resulting in last waste and better material utilization. The big caveat: regrind usage is carefully controlled. Regrind isn't automatically equivalent to virgin resin. Every time plastic is processed through the molding machine, it experiences heat and pressure which can affect the polymer. At ADC we have carefully controlled regrind percentages if used in molding.

In injection mold tool design, the sprue and fan gate are both parts of the system that delivers molten plastic from the injection machine into the mold cavity, but they serve very different purposes. The sprue gets the plastic into the mold.
The fan gate gets the plastic into the part in a controlled way. Thoughtful consideration in design stage leads to better manufacturing outcomes.
