What the Engineer says & (What is really meant) < Barack--Obama > 2025-06-12 11:58

A number of different approaches are being tried.
(We are still grasping at straws.)

We're working on a fresh approach to the problem.
(We just hired three kids fresh out of college.)

Close project coordination.
(We know who to blame.)

Major technological break through.
(It works OK, but looks very hi-tech.)

Customer satisfaction upon delivery is assured.
(We are so far behind schedule the customer is happy to get it delivered.)

Preliminary operational tests were inconclusive.
(The darn thing blew up when we threw the switch.)

Test results were extremely gratifying.
(We are so surprised that the stupid thing works.)

The entire concept will have to be abandoned.
(The only person who understood the thing quit.)

It is in process.
(It is so wrapped up in red tape that the situation is about hopeless.)

We'll look into it.
(Forget it! We have enough problems for now.)

Please read and initial.
(Let's spread the responsibility for the mistake.)

Give us the benefit of your thoughts.
(We'll listen to what you have to say as long as it doesn't interfere with what we've already done.)

Give us your interpretation.
(I can't wait to hear this!)

All new!
(Parts not interchangeable with the previous design.)

Rugged
(Too heavy to lift!)

Lightweight
(Lighter than rugged.)

Years of development
(One finally worked.)

Energy saving
(Achieved when the power switch is off.)

Low maintenance
(Impossible to fix if broken.)

Yerion & Associates, LLC, working as an employee of GBA, is providing construction inspection services for rehabilitation of MODoT bridges in the St. Louis District 6 area. This particular bridge is along HWY 94 in the Weldon Spring Conservation area. R.V. Wagner along with Thomas Industrial Coatings are providing piling encasements and piling painting of the supports of the bridge, crossing Little Femme Osage Creek. It is in rugged hill country, a short distance from the Missouri River and has been hot and humid, with today's temperatures hitting 95. Later on the bridge deck with be sealed with an expoxy coating to keep the integrity of the deck. We will be moving on to another of the 8 bridges in St. Charles County in the near future.

View today from my "office". Berra Construction set a 60" concrete pipe for the pump station. Second crew installing sanitary sewers for the development, and the general view from the very back of the development. On a cold, windy day.

Yerion & Associates is providing construction engineering services thru GBA, Inc for the construction of a federally funded trail in Chesterfield, MO. For those of you not familiar with the location, Chesterfield is in W. St. Louis County, about 20 miles from down town. The particular location is just west of Chesterfield Mall, thru residential subdivisions. For students of soils engineering, the soil we are digging thru is loess, a wind blown silt from out of the Missouri River bottoms. You can see the typical loess cut: vertical cuts that allow it to stand straight up. And once cut away, becomes a very fine, almost, talcum powder. The was is made of concrete blocks that interlock and then filled with granular rock. Rock is back-filled behind the wall and reinforced with webbing. this particular wall is 10 feet high. Subsequent pictures show a drainage system to remove water out thru weep holes in the base of the wall. Easiest of all is that each block is 1 square foot, meeting to calculate the area of the wall completed each day, one only has to count blocks.

A group of engineering professors were invited to fly in a new plane.

Right after they were comfortably seated, they were informed the plane was built by their students.

All but one got off their seats and headed frantically to the exits in maniacal panic.

The one lone professor that stayed put, calmly in his seat, was asked: "Why did you stay put?"

"I have plenty of confidence in my students. Knowing them, I for a fact can assure you this piece of crap plane will never even start"

"Stan Span", as it is sometimes called, carries Interstate 70 across the Mississippi River, linking St. Louis, Mo., and St. Clair County, Ill. It's total span is 2,803 feet, and its main span is supported by 1,000 miles of 0.6-inch-diameter stay-cabled strand. When it was completed in 2013, it was the nation's third longest cable-stayed bridge. (It is named the Stan Span after Stan Musial, a beloved St. Louis Cardinal who played in the 1940's and 1950's).

My anxiety gets really bad when I drive over bridges. My therapist says I have truss issues.
