The passage of H.R. 9436 is great news for lobstermen from Maine to Maryland.

Riverdale Mills supports extending the North Atlantic right whale regulatory pause through 2035.

H.R. 9436 would extend the current pause affecting the lobster and Jonah crab fisheries from 2028 to 2035. Why does this matter?

In 2022, Congress enacted the regulatory pause and funded new efforts to gather information needed for a data-driven process to establish rules that made sense for both fishermen and whales.

That research is still underway. Giving scientists and regulators more time means more complete information can be considered before new regulations are developed.

Extending the pause does not mean abandoning whale protections. It means maintaining the existing framework while allowing the science to catch up.

As a manufacturer of Aquamesh® and a longtime advocate for the lobster fishing industry, Riverdale Mills believes the future of the fishery should be guided by a commitment to both conservation and the people whose livelihoods depend on the water.

Congratulations to the eight future shellfish farmers who received the new grant sites in Brewster.
