Well, she’s finally done.
I’m honestly pretty damn happy with how this aluminum rack project turned out on my Polaris Ranger 6x6. I’ve been wanting to build something like this ever since I bought the machine, and over the last couple years the idea just kept evolving. Last year’s Ranger 1000 bed project really helped shape the design, and this one came together even better than I had hoped.
The aluminum sheeting and rivets gave it a super clean look, everything is tight, there’s no rattling, and it feels solid as a rock. I’d still like to build a rear door eventually, but I want to find a different material first, so that’ll be a project for another day. The hinges are already sitting on the bench waiting.
This build was designed with one thing in mind: Alaska moose season.
The upper rack will make hauling camp gear a breeze, and I should be able to pack everything I need into camp in a single trip. When it’s time to head home, I’m pretty confident it’ll haul a bull moose and all the gear without breaking a sweat. The rear boom I built for the winch came out better than expected too. It’s stout, and I don’t see any problem lifting close to 500 pounds with it.
It’s been a couple months of rebuilding, upgrading, wrenching, welding, and spending way too much time staring at it while drinking coffee and pretending I was working. But seeing it all come together makes it worth it.
Now all I need is for moose season to hurry up and get here.
And maybe for Alaska to quit trying to cook us alive. It’s hard to get excited about hunting when it’s 85 degrees outside and the mosquitoes are flying around like they pay property taxes.
Anyway, enjoy the pictures. North Star Fabworks at it again. 🇺🇸🫎🏔️
